Mateo kept sighing

“It I knew, I wouldn’t have meddled in this or caught you guys. At most, I’d be suppressed by another guy. But now, I’m about to get killed. I regret it! You have big supporters, don’t you? Is there any way to contact either of them? It’ll be enough to suppress Macsen, that crazy guy!”

Mateo’s words suddenly made everyone gloomy.

Though Leia was happy at first, she suddenly teared up.

She bit her lips and said, “I lied. I suddenly feel that Xavier is pretty important to me too. I always assumed that he was just some spice in my life. It’s okay whether he’s around or not. But now, I’m heartbroken to think that I can never see, kiss, or hug him. If it’s possible, I want to say goodbye to him.”

“Are you serious with Xavier?” Liam felt displeased when he heard Leia’s passionate confession. “Birds of a feather flock together. Xavier and Halston are best buddies. Of course, Xavier isn’t a good guy either.”

“Well, he isn’t exactly a good guy, but…” Lela said softly, “But he’s great.”

“I didn’t expect such a sensible you to fall for a scumbag. He’s one of the four scumbags of Beach City! Do you know how many women he has dated? Do you think he’ll stay loyal to you?”

Anger gripped Liam. If his hands weren’t tied up, he wanted to slap some sense into her.

“That was in the past! He’s loyal when he’s with me…” Leia retorted.

At that point, she felt guilty. She wondered if Xavier was really that loyal. It didn’t seem the case, though, since he had always been entangled with his first love. He was disloyal.

“How naive! You don’t know men well. Didn’t you suffer a lot when you were with that liar?” Liam recalled how Leia’s first love had fooled her. He felt sorry for her.

Unexpectedly, the second boyfriend she found was also unreliable. It drove Liam anxious.

“Okay, stop scolding me! We’re going to die. It doesn’t matter who I love!” Annoyed, Leia closed her eyes-she wanted to get killed immediately to get it over with.

Liam found Lela unlucky and disappointing. He simply stopped talking.

A brief silence overcame them. It seemed like they had accepted their fate to get killed as they quietly waited for their death.

Macsen had returned to the shop to treat his wound.

After struggling for a long while, Mateo failed to struggle free. Macsen’s subordinate whipped him several times. “Motherfucker! Just wait. I’ll make you pay!” Mateo furiously cursed Macsen’s subordinate.

Macsen’s subordinate sneered. “Hmph. You want to make me pay? I think my boss will skin you alive. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a lamp made of human skin We’re waiting for a good show!”

Lela had closed her eyes, but when she heard that, she shuddered and reopened them abruptly. Her voice was shaky as she asked, “Liam, what’s that?”

“Uh…” Liam found it too cruel and couldn’t bring himself to explain it to Leia. He hated his incapabilities. “It’s my fault. I got you guys into this mess. Damn it all!”

“No, we can’t blame you. I should be blamed instead. If I hadn’t barged into the orchard and offended that crazy guy’s wife and son, we wouldn’t get into this mess,” Leia said.

Leia, teary, wasn’t afraid of death. On the other hand, she felt guilty for burdening Liam and Flossie and regretted not meeting Xavier again.

She was the one who came to attend Liam’s wedding in secret. She even lied to Xavier that she and Flossie were having a trip at Lagooncall. She set off when he had gone on a business trip, so she didn’t even get to say goodbye to him.

Now, they were doomed there. Xavier wouldn’t even know how she died and might not even get to see her body. “Hey, stop. I should be blamed instead,” Mateo muttered.

On the verge of death, his conscience got the better of him. He started reflecting on himself.

“If I hadn’t used you guys to control Liam and try to take his power, I wouldn’t have made you guys fall out with Luneth and Grady. Then, Macsen wouldn’t be alerted. In short, I’m the culprit. You guys were just burdened.”

Liam raised his brows, surprised at Mateo’s kindness. He even faked a smile. “I thought you were heartless, but I was wrong. What a pity! I saw the true you under this kind of circumstance. If not, I wouldn’t oppose your marriage with Gem.

“Oh, stop!” Mateo sneered. “You ruined my marriage with Gem and persuaded her not to marry any guy, but do you think it’s good for her? You just did it out of your selfishness! You didn’t want to lose a stupid and naive supporter all of a sudden.”

“Nonsense! I didn’t think of it that way. I sincerely didn’t want her to marry a guy with a complicated mind and who values his interests over everything else,” Liam refuted with agitation. However, his agitation proved that he wasn’t telling the truth.

He would never admit that he had stopped Mateo and Amber’s marriage selfishly…

“Only you know the answer. You dislike Gem but hate to lose a woman who’s in love with you. And you know she’s simple and honest. She’ll stop loving you if she decides to marry me. She’ll even stop getting in touch with you. You just don’t want to lose such a wonderful woman who cares only about you. Am I right?” Mateo shot back.

Speechless, Liam neither admitted it nor denied it. The change in his attitude came from the change in the way Amber treated him.

Previously, Amber cared very much about Liam. Later, she wanted nothing but to stay away from him.

She had happily planned their wedding and imagined how to lead their married lives. Later, she planned her wedding with another man…and wanted to learn sewing from Liam to sew their wedding suits.

It was heartbreaking!

Hence, Liam chose a noble excuse to try and ruin the wedding between Amber and Mateo. He kept using pessimistic wedding opinions to influence Amber’s thoughts as a traditional woman.

True, he hadn’t influenced Amber’s mind solely out of his selfishness. Women would have more freedom if they stayed single. He dissuaded Amber from getting married mainly for the sake of her happiness, but it didn’t cover up his despicable thoughts.

Hence, he chose to keep quiet.

“Wow, Liam! I didn’t expect you to fall for her. I thought you were forced to be with her!” While enjoying the fun, Lela forgot about her sadness and fear. Her eyes went wide as she teased Liam.

“Hey, you know nothing. Just mind your business!” Liam grumpily scolded Leia, but he wasn’t confident himself. At that time, Flossie broke her silence and asked Liam softly, “Do you want to see her now?”

“Who?” Liam asked the obvious.

“Amber,” Flossie said curiously. “If we’re going to get killed here today, is she the one you want to meet the most?” “I..” Liam closed his eyes and dwelled on it.

The one who appeared in his mind was Amber in her traditional clothing. Her smile was light. She was such a bright and simple woman, like medicine that could help relax one’s nerves. Liam would feel better and relaxed when she smiled at him.

He had no idea if Amber was the one he wanted to meet the most before he died, but he knew that the thing he would miss the most was her smile.

“See. She won you over. It isn’t embarrassing. Just admit to it.” Flossie went straight to the point and teased, “You always refuse to speak your mind. If you recognized your feelings for her sooner, you guys might have already started a family.”

“Oh, please stop teasing me at a time like this.” Liam would only behave himself in front of Flossie. He bowed his head and said guiltily, “If I knew, I wouldn’t have told Lei about my upcoming marriage. Now I got you guys into this mess, Damn it!”

“Oh, stop. It’s meaningless to repent here. Well… We can’t blame anybody. This calamity is unavoidable,” Flossie said in a carefree manner.

“Well… How about you?” Liam asked carefully. “Who’s the one you want to meet the most?”

Silence washed over everyone instantly. It seemed they were waiting for Flossie’s answer.

Mateo, who was unrelated, was all ears too. He wanted to listen to a spicy story before he got killed. After all, it was related to Halston, the mighty president of Guajardo Enterprise. Of course, it would be amazing

However, Flossie remained silent after a long while.

“Hey, silly. Of course, Flossie wants to meet Adie and Abby the most!” Leia glared at Liam because the latter had asked the obvious. She also helped to get Flossie out of the awkwardness.

“Of course.” Liam didn’t let it go, and kept pressing Flossie. “Is there anyone else you want to meet other than Adie and Abby?”

“Certainly. Both Quinton and Margaret are very important to Flossie. I know Flossie can’t bear to let them go,” Leia casually mentioned other people except Halston.

She knew Halston’s name was too special to Flossie. If she mentioned Halston, Flossie might break down. Hence, she could never mention Halston.

“No, you’re wrong!” Mateo finally couldn’t take it anymore and said loudly, “I’m sure Ms. Ellsworth can’t bear to part with her most beloved at a time like this. Plus, she wants to meet her most beloved the most. I’m sure that’s Halston Guajardo, the president of Guajardo Enterprise.”

“Shut up!” Leia angrily clenched her fists. “Just pipe down! We’re going to get killed. Watch your tongue!”
