“What else do you want to say? Just spill it. Then, you can rest in peace.”
“You want to kill us, and we can’t resist. We’re at your mercy. But I’m curious about the grudge between you and Halston. Why go through so much trouble to get back at him?”
Flossie looked at Macsen curiously. That was the question she wanted to ask before dying.
“Didn’t I tell you? He got my most beloved woman killed.” At the mention of that, Macsen grew teary. Hatred filled his eyes.
“How did he get her killed? Tell me the details. Maybe… Maybe I can tell you a better way to cause him pain instead of killing me,” Flossie said, raising a profound suggestion.
“Oh?” Macsen looked at Flossie, interested. “Is there a way to cause him pain? Well then, I’m all ears.”
Flossie looked at herself and Leia, then said, “I can tell you, but you need to let us go first. At least, let my friend go.
Macsen grew cold, and snorted, “Hmph! You can’t negotiate terms with me. I think killing you both is enough to cause him pain. Men, do it!”
“No!”
Flossie found Macsen’s emotions to be very unsteady-he would turn hostile at any minute. Hence, she said patiently, “Okay, I won’t ask you to let us go since you don’t want to. At least tell us what terrible things Halston has done that made you hate him so much. Maybe I’ll pity you once you tell me. Then, I’ll help you take revenge on him.”
“Don’t take me as a fool. You, help me take revenge on him?” Macsen glared at Flossie.
Macsen wasn’t so foolish to believe that a woman deeply in love with Halston would betray him and work with his enemy to target him.
Then again, it would cause Halston greater pain if his beloved woman betrayed him instead of getting killed.
After some consideration, Macsen told Flossie, “I can tell you that. I’ll let you know what an ungrateful bastard your beloved man is.”
“Okay, I’m all ears.”
Flossie remained positive. Since she was tied up with a heavy sandbag around her feet, she sat on the ground and looked at Macsen curiously, as if eager to listen to a story.
“Count me in.” Leia was curious too. She leaned close to Flossie and sat cross-legged on the ground.
The scene, though essentially cruel, appeared humorous. It was a twisted version of two curious children listening to a story told by their teacher.
“It happened six years ago… Macsen began.
He looked at the dark surface of the river and started recalling the past.
“At that time, I had yet to know Luneth. My girlfriend and I grew up together. We were madly in love. Later, I did some business and got into a dispute with Guajardo Enterprise. Halston was full of tricks. He caught my girlfriend, using cruel means on her to make me bow down. When I rushed there, she had been tortured so much..
When Macsen reached that part of the story, he tensed up and clenched his fists. Resentment shone in his eyes. Based on Macsen’s words, Flossie could guess the possible situation. Leia, however, was a moron and didn’t know to read the room. She raised her hand, looking completely ignorant and foolish.
“May I ask how your girlfriend was tortured? What happened to her afterward?” she asked stupidly.
Her moronic questions naturally earned her a glare from Macsen. He looked like he wanted to tear her apart.
“Don’t glare at me like that! You have to make yourself clear. How else could we help you judge the situation?” Leia insisted solemnly, making her stand. She wasn’t terrified.
“Lei, stop talking,” Flossie muttered.
Flossie interrupted Leia for fear that the latter’s words might drive Macsen up the wall.
Macsen’s intense reaction proved that he wasn’t lying. Halston had probably done something outrageous to his girlfriend.
However, there might be some hidden clues in that incident. Given Flossie’s understanding of Halston, he wasn’t so ruthless even though he was abominable.
“No, she’s right.”
Macsen took a deep breath and sneered.
“I should make myself clear. If not, you’d never know how wicked someone could be… When I found my girlfriend, she was naked and had all kinds of bruises. She cried and told me that Halston had assaulted her for several days and nights. In the end, she jumped off a building and died in front of me because of the utter humiliation!”
“What?!” At that point, Leia expressed her disbelief. “That can’t be! There must be some misunderstanding! Halston’s a scumbag, but he’s not a skirt-chaser or a deviant. That kind of thing would never have happened. Given his identity and status, he can get any woman he wants. He didn’t have to force himself on a woman dating another man.’
Although Leia hated Halston for being a cheater, she knew he wouldn’t be that vulgar. She defended him immediately before Flossie could say anything.
“Hmph! Everyone said the same thing. They asked me to hold myself back and not to take revenge. That I shouldn’t take revenge before I gain enough power… But they had forgotten how my girlfriend, who was in her early twenties, died in humiliation!”
Macsen gradually lost control of his emotions as his eyes turned teary. He looked ferocious.
“I’ve never forgotten. I still remember it after all this time. I tried my best to get stronger. I married a woman I didn’t love and fought for Benjamin. I waited for the day to seek revenge for my love!”
Compared to his emotional state, Flossie was calm. She neither defended Halston nor inquired about that incident. Instead, she asked calmly, “Do you think you can get justice for her by killing me?”
“Of course!”
Masen took a deep breath to calm himself down.
He looked at Flossie and said, “But you’ve reminded me one thing. Killing you isn’t the end of my revenge. I should do what Halston had done and torture his beloved for several days and nights. And then, I’ll force her to die in front of him! It’ll cause him greater pain.”
“Mm, I think so too.” Flossie nodded and shrugged calmly. “Look. It’ll be meaningless for you to push my friend and me into the river if he’s indifferent about it. Just do what you said and give him a taste of his medicine. The blow will be more powerful.”
“What?”
Flossie’s suggestion confused Macsen. After a long pause, he burst into laughter.
“Oh, Halston! You think you’re powerful, but your woman is worse than mine. At least my woman wouldn’t ask another man to fool with her body just to live!”
He thought Flossie was telling him to take her body. In comparison, his late lover was so much tougher. It was a victory for him, in a way.
“You can live, but I have a condition,” Macsen suggested to Flossie cunningly.
“What kind of condition? I’m listening, Flossie said curiously.
“It’s very simple. The best way to take revenge on a man is to humiliate his beloved in front of him, especially by making her a slut in front of him. So…”
After a pause, Macsen sized Flossie up and cracked a wicked smile. “Tum on your social media, go live, and show everyone how you and I fool around. Let them see how you enjoy my lovemaking. Then, I’ll consider letting you guys live!”
“That’s outrageous!” Leia snarled, unable to tolerate it any longer. “You’re out of your mind! Your woman is humiliated, so you should find fault with the culprit! Why do you want to hurt another innocent woman? If you love live shows, you should go shoot that kind of video yourself and sell it worldwide. It’ll satisfy your special tastes!”
Her sarcasm angered Macsen, who turned to his subordinate beside him.
The subordinate immediately walked forward. Without hesitation, he grabbed Leia to the large ship behind Macsen.
“It’s finally quiet now.” Macsen smiled at Flossie and said insincerely, “My suggestion might seem bold. If you feel embarrassed, I can make everyone else leave. We’ll be left alone here… Just imagine. The ground will be our bed as we look up at the sky. The surging currents will sing for us. Isn’t it romantic?”
“You’re a sick pervert!” Flossie spat, mocking him as Leia had done. She was so disgusted that she nearly vomited. She thought that a loyal and passionate man like Macsen would not be lascivious or cheesy, since it had been hard for him to forget about his girlfriend who had died miserably. Flossie even pitied him.
Now, he made such a disgusting request. Her compassion was wasted.
It seemed like all men were the same. They would never stay loyal, regardless if they were madly in love with a woman.
Men probably never cared about love or loyalty. It also explained why Halston wanted to satisfy his desire with Jessanna despite risking his life to save Flossie. She once felt that there must be some misunderstanding and that Halston would never ever betray her.
