“I understand you.” Liam pocketed his hands and lingered around Flossie’s bed. He felt sorry for her and blamed himself. “Leave it. I’ll take care of it.”

Flossie thought about it and nodded. “Okay, you can handle it the way you want.”

Liam was no longer the same and had undergone vast changes. Hence, Flossie could no longer take him as an ignorant younger man.

At that time, both Flossie and Leia noticed the scars on Liam’s face and neck.

“Liam, what’s wrong with your neck? There wasn’t such a big scratch just now. How did you suddenly get this?’ Leia demanded.

She walked over, grabbed his collar, and turned it over. When she saw the light and dark scratches, her face turned solemn.

Liam avoided the question and made an ambiguous excuse. “I accidentally hurt myself.”

“What did you do? How could you make such neat scratches?” Leia snapped. It wasn’t that easy to fool her.

She put her hands on her waist and added, “Stop lying to me, Liam! Tell me who bullied you. I’ll get revenge for you! You’re different now. You aren’t happy here, are you? Did they force you to get married when you didn’t want to? Have they abused you? I can’t take this, let alone our family. Don’t marry her. When Flossie’s leg recovers, we’ll get the hell out of here!”

Leia rambled on and on, finding it hard to get rid of her fury.

Recalling her journey here and Liam’s experience, she found this place barbaric and lawless. Normal people shouldn’t stay there. She was eager to take Liam away.

“What do you know, kid? Stop meddling.” Liam rubbed Leia’s hair, not wanting to dwell much on it.

“What? I’m not a kid! I can tell you’ve been treated wrongly.” Leia frowned. Although she was angry, she looked for an ointment for her brother and wanted to apply it to his neck.

Liam stopped her and said casually, “Stop! You don’t need to apply the ointment for me again.”

“Huh?” Leia asked. “Who applied the ointment for you?”

Leia looked at her brother curiously as she held the ointment.

“Stop asking about that. You’re so talkative now. If I knew, I wouldn’t have let you come or told you about my upcoming marriage. You never stop talking!” Liam pushed Leia away disdainfully, but in truth, he just didn’t want to see her worry about him.

His current situation was bad. If Benjamin was angered, he might be killed. This would naturally burden Leia and Flossie. Hence, all he wanted was to keep the peace and help them escape successfully.

Flossie sat up straight and looked up at Liam, interested. ‘Did Amber apply it for you?”

“No,” Liam replied immediately.

He wasn’t sure what to think and chose to deny it immediately. He felt that there was nothing between him and Amber-they were just strangers. It wasn’t the kind of relationship where he would let her apply ointment for him. If he admitted to it, his relationship with her would become ambiguous. He didn’t want to see that happen. “You’re lying!” Flossie grinned. She looked at Liam and tried to see through him for an answer. “You’re all grown up and different now. You’re moved by her, but you’re too shy to admit to it. Tsk, tsk, tsk! Don’t be shy. You’re in your twenties. It’s normal for you to like someone. It isn’t puppy love. We won’t criticize you.”

Flossie had always been good with judging people. Liam’s temperament was vastly different, and it looked like he had a crush on someone. The most possible candidate in the whole fort was undeniably Amber.

If Liam was moved by Amber, Flossie would find it much easier. If not, she would feel that he had betrayed his soul and chose to stay there helplessly because of her and Leia.

However, things would be different if he had a crush on Amber. On the contrary, it would be a great thing!

“No, you’re wrong!” Liam denied, feeling wronged. He raised two fingers and swore solemnly, ‘I swear I feel nothing for Amber. I just see her as someone younger than me. I have no feelings for her. Even if all the other women are dead, I won’t fall in love with her.”

He had no idea why he said that so firmly, as if he could only stop himself from falling in love with Amber by doing that. It was the only way he could protect his soul.

“Oh… Got it,” came a voice.

Before Flossie and Leia could reply, they suddenly heard Amber’s voice from the door. It was so gentle, it shook their souls. Though soft, it gave off a feeling of everlasting peace.

“Amber, what…what are you doing here? You never told me you’d be coming!” Flossie tried to make excuses for Liam, feeling awkward. “Don’t listen to his nonsense! Men always say things contrary to their minds. If he claimed that he wasn’t in love, then it proved that he was. He was just insincere and didn’t want to admit to it.”

“It’s okay.”

Amber was dressed in green traditional clothing that accentuated her slender waist, making her look petite yet mysterious.

She smiled at Flossie. “I’ve always been aware of his feelings for me. I accept that. I thought things might be good after marrying him, but I was selfish. I wanted to use my father’s pressure to make him marry me. Now, I’ve come to my senses. I know that in love, we can’t force things. So… I’ve made up my mind.”

Flossie swallowed. For some unknown reason, she was scared to see Amber in such formal clothes.

“What…have you decided?”

‘I’ve decided to cancel my marriage with Liam and be his friend instead,” Amber announced calmly, smiling.

A heavy silence followed her statement.

“Uh, did you just cancel the marriage just like that?” Flossie asked.

She had no idea what else to say, feeling awkward. After all, this concerned Liam and Amber’s relationship. They should be the ones deciding on their marriage.

Flossie didn’t know what to do about the current situation. She wasn’t sure whether she should tell them to be together or break them apart. Her identity was special and her relationship with Liam seemed ambiguous. It wasn’t suitable for her to give them any advice.

On the contrary, Leia was momentarily startled. After that, she started clapping.

“Great! I’ve wanted to discuss this with you before. It’s wonderful that you’re canceling the marriage. Liam’s more suited to live in a normal world. This place is far too barbaric. It’s a disaster for a rich heir like him who has always led a wealthy life. I hope you guys can let him go back to the world he belongs to.”

Leia, ever open-minded, revealed her thoughts without hiding anything or considering that she might harm Amber. Even if it might hurt Amber, she would always say what she felt was right. If Amber and Liam kept everything to themselves and chose to break up only after they found themselves incompatible, it would bring them real harm. “Yes, I noticed that too. I know I can’t be selfish anymore.” Amber’s complexion was awful, but she tried her best to keep her smile. ‘After some consideration, I feel that Liam can’t stay here for long. But I’m my father’s only daughter, so I can’t leave. Our marriage will sacrifice one of us. Plus… There’s no love between us. We’re not suited for each other. Being apart is the most accurate choice.”

“I’m glad to see you come to your senses. You’re a rational woman who can tell right from wrong. You’re different from those rude people. Putting all that aside, I like you a lot.”

Leia saw how docile and obedient Amber looked, and how the latter always smiled brightly. Her praise for Amber was sincere. If Amber didn’t come with such a special identity, Leia would love to have Amber as her sister-in-law.

“Are you sure you want to cancel it?” said Liam, the groom, after a long silence. His poker face made it difficult for one to guess his thoughts.

Amber turned and looked at Liam, and replied obediently, “Mm. I’ve thought it through and discussed it with Dad. He promised to give me a reply in a few days.”

Liam frowned and said indifferently. “Since you’ve made up your mind, I don’t have anything to say. But will it be troublesome? After all, the wedding preparations are almost done. We’ve also invited the guests and decorated the scene. If you suddenly cancel it, how can we explain it to them?”

‘These are trivial affairs. It’s fine as long as we handle them one by one. Dad is quite prestigious here. No one dares to laugh at us,” Amber explained.

Amber sounded relaxed and casual. She didn’t find anything meddlesome at all.

As Benjamin’s only daughter, it all came down to her whether she wanted the wedding or not. She didn’t have to bear the consequences or risks, either.

Previously, she hoped she could have a future with Liam. After getting in touch with Liam’s family and friends, she learned about his world and saw the difference between them. It couldn’t be overcome by having a casual wedding.

She might as well eliminate the possibility of feeling regret entirely instead of feeling regret after the wedding.

“Did Mr. Jenkins oppose it?” Liam kept asking Amber. Previously, he wanted to leave but Benjamin refused to let him go. If he did, Benjamin would tear him a new one.

Liam didn’t expect the stubborn Benjamin would yield. He feared there might be a bigger trap waiting for him. ‘Dad didn’t agree at first, but Matt and I kept persuading him. Plus, we suggested a better resolution. He might be moved and stopped forcing me,” Amber explained.

She sighed and expressed her understanding of her father.

“I know he just wants to see me happy. He saw that I was in love with you, so he tried to force you to marry me. Later, he realized I wouldn’t be happy with such a forced marriage and stopped trying to make you marry me. But at that time, I was stubborn and insisted on marrying you. He was helpless. Now, I’ve decided to give up and he’s relieved. Of course, he wouldn’t say no,”

“What’s the resolution you guys came up with?” Liam asked.

Amber’s composure frustrated him. He was curious about the resolution Amber and Mateo came up with in just a few hours, and wondered what could make Benjamin change his mind.
