Humph!

Liam left just like that, leaving her to deal with his mess. He gave her so much trouble!

Liam was unstable and couldn’t be considered a good man. He was unsuited to be one’s husband.

“I know he dislikes being bound. That’s what I like about him, so I never intended to control him,” Amber said. She kept looking at Liam ahead of her. However, her smile grew fainter.

“Liam and I have different lives. I grew up in this fort. I spent all my life here, and I rarely went out. Sometimes I found myself a pet kept by my dad. I don’t have my own life.

“After I got to know Liam, I learned for the first time that people could lead their lives freely. At that time, Dad occasionally saved him. He was recuperating here. I sometimes helped take care of him and he would tell me stories about himself. He told me about the things he learned while traveling the world. He even told me that he liked a beautiful woman very much.

“I wondered what kind of woman she was to make such a carefree man like him fall for her. Then, I got to meet her. She was brave and smart. She stood against everyone here for Joanne’s sake. I understood why Liam liked her so much. Even I liked her!”

“Uh, I never knew.” Leia cleared her throat. Suddenly, she found that her worries were unnecessary.

Amber’s love was vast and tolerant. Her love was more generous than Leia’s petty affection.

To Leia, love was selfish and exclusive. She couldn’t tolerate anyone else. She liked Xavier, so she wanted him to love her wholeheartedly. If Xavier cared about someone else, it would vex her and she would make a scene until all he cared about was her alone.

However, Amber didn’t seem to care that she wasn’t the woman Liam loved the most. She didn’t even care if he loved her or not, as long as she loved him.

Regardless, Amber seemed to be a very good woman. Liam was lucky to find such a simple and kind woman. Liam hurriedly arrived at the bedroom. Kingsley Holmes, the best doctor in the fort, was already waiting there.

However, Mateo was standing at the door, prohibiting Liam from carrying Flossie into the room. He glared at Liam and tried to stop the latter.

“Liam, aren’t you over the line?” Mateo was Benjamin’s capable subordinate, as well as one of the latter’s adopted sons. His authority in the fort was only second to Benjamin’s.

“My friend got hurt. I’m going to carry her into the room. If you don’t want to get into a fight, you’d better get out of the way.” Liam’s eyes shone coldly. He didn’t even look at Mateo.

He and Mateo could be considered best buddies who had gone through grave danger together. However, Benjamin grew to value Liam. On top of that, Liam was going to marry Amber soon. Mateo couldn’t take it, since he had a crush on Amber from a young age. Thus, he often found fault in everything Liam did.

Previously, Liam smoothly avoided it since he didn’t want to cause any trouble. But he was carrying Flossie, who was a very important person to him. Naturally, he would not step down.

“She’s our guest. I don’t object to her seeing the doctor since she’s hurt, but there are so many subordinates who can help you. Why can’t you ask them to carry her for you?” Mateo snapped.

He stepped forward, his face icy, about to carry Flossie for Liam.

“You can go into the room, but you can’t carry her inside. It’s improper for a man who’s about to get married to do

“That’s none of your business.” Liam’s gaze turned icy as he stared at Mateo’s outstretched hand. He added fiercely. “Let me repeat-get out of the way!”

“Then, I’ll repeat too-you can go in, but you can’t carry her!” Mateo barked. He had no intention to withdraw his hand, and refused to yield.

The two fell into a stalemate.

Although they were a few feet apart, Flossie could sense their intense wrath. She felt like she was roasted above a fire, like she had been when she was with the cannibals. In fact, this was even more torturous.

She hurriedly moved and tried her best to jump out of Liam’s arms. “It’s fine. I can go into the room on my own. One of my feet is clamped, but the other is fine. I can walk.

Then, she bent her clamped feet in front of them and hopped into the room.

“Boss!” Liam blurted out, wanting to support her. He felt very sorry for her.

“Stop!” Mateo grabbed Liam’s arm and watched Leia and Amber, who were slowly walking over. He gnashed his teeth and hissed, “Since you’ve promised Master to marry Gem, you should fulfill your responsibility as her fiance! You should act prudently. It’ll be good for you and Gem. You can still protect the woman you admire.”

He leaned forward and lowered his voice, trying to remind and threaten Liam at the same time.

“You know very well how many spies Master has here. If you infuriate him, you can’t even protect yourself, let alone a female outsider. You’d better avoid trouble!”

Liam looked around, and discovered a few people who looked like his subordinates but were in truth Benjamin’s spies. They were obviously eyeing him.

Hence, he took a deep breath and yielded.

“Liam, where’s Flossie?” Leia asked nervously. She ran over and looked around, but failed to see Flossie.

“She hopped into the room,” Liam replied calmly. Then, he glanced at Amber, who was standing beside Leia. “Go in and take a look. I need to go to Mr. Jenkins for something.”

“Ah, you’re leaving? You aren’t a good friend!” Leia shrieked.

Liam was such a maniac! At first, he was very enthusiastic and intimate with Flossie. Yet right afterward, he acted like Flossie’s stranger. He didn’t even care about her injuries.

Leia couldn’t understand what was on Liam’s mind.

“You being here is enough. If there’s anything you need, just order the servants.” Then, Liam glanced at Amber again. However, he said nothing to her and left.

The others might not be able to tell anything wrong, but Mateo could. Liam was ignoring Amber.

Mateo couldn’t allow that.

“Gem, come with me!”

He dragged the sorrowful Amber toward the direction Liam had gone.

“What’s wrong, Matt?” Amber was confused. She looked at the room where Flossie was. “I want to see Ms. Ellsworth. She’s a guest. Plus, she got hurt because she wanted to attend my wedding with Liam. I have to take care of her.”

“Oh, please!” Mateo felt sorry for Amber. At the same time, he was angry because of how uncompetitive she was. “Do you know how much Liam cares about her? How could you agree to let her come to your house? You’re inviting your enemy. Don’t you know that?”

“No, you’re wrong.” Amber shook her head. ‘Ms. Ellsworth and Liam know each other. Plus, he liked her long ago. My dad just forced him to marry me. It’s normal if he doesn’t like me and is still in love with Ms. Ellsworth. I’m the one to be blamed because I’m selfish. I know that he doesn’t like me, but I manipulated my father to get together with Liam.”

“What are you talking about, silly girl?” Mateo clutched his chest, furious. “He was the one who suggested the marriage to Master! It proves that he wants to marry you. It probably doesn’t mean he likes you, but it’s undeniable that he started it. He was willing to marry you. No one forced him. Don’t make it sound like he’s innocent and sympathetic. He just pretended to be treated unfairly.”

“I know why he suggested to Dad to marry me.” Amber flexed her fingers, her eyes red. “He knew it was the only way he’d be free. Dad had long regarded him as his son-in-law. The fact that he’s going to marry me is already set in stone, but Dad just waited for him to suggest it. Dad wouldn’t let him go if he didn’t suggest it. Dad would even hurt the people he cared about. While it seemed like he had suggested it, he was actually threatened to do so. Of course he’s innocent and sympathetic.”

“It’s because…he’s very weak!” Mateo snarled.

He had heard about Benjamin’s pathological threat and control toward Liam. That marriage seemed voluntary, but Benjamin had gradually forced Liam into that desperate choice.

However, Mateo didn’t feel sorry for Liam. Instead, he sympathized with Amber, who had no right to voice out her opinions.

‘But you’re the most innocent one. You know your fiance loves someone else deeply, but you can’t say anything about it. You’re the only young lady of the Jenkins family, but you’re bullied by a live-in husband… Didn’t you see the way he looked at you just now? He was so arrogant! I felt like beating him up!” Mateo argued.

“Matt, you don’t have to get justice for me. I’m happy. Plus, I’m not greedy. Marrying him is a great honor and blessing for me. I’ve never dreamed of winning him over or getting his love,” Amber said.

She laughed at herself. She was simple and naive, but she didn’t care for wishful thoughts. Her future husband would never love her. She knew that right from the start.

“You..! You make me so mad!” Mateo growled.

He still found it unacceptable, and gripped Amber.

“Come with me. Let’s go to Master. Make him put Liam down. You guys are going to marry in a few days, but that woman is going to stay here. I’m afraid trouble might pop up. We need to get his reassurance in front of Master.”

“What do you mean? I don’t need that. I- Amber argued.

“Stop it and just come with me!”
