Chapter 839 – A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love

“I find it weird too,” Joanne added. “Whoever it is probably didn’t support my family. They purposely made my family harm your brother, and even paid my family to do that. In short, that person should be quite powerful and influential.

“During the early years, my awful brother committed a crime and took advantage of a young woman in the village. That victim wasn’t even sixteen years old! Logically, he should be severely punished. But that person managed to settle it. From then on, I could feel your brother getting worse. My parents seemed to have received some kind of order. They would harm your brother more severely with higher pay from that person.”

“How abominable!” Flossie couldn’t take it anymore, and slammed her fists hard on the table. If that was true, that person was outrageous! How could they ruin an innocent child like this? What resentment was there?”

It was already considered very wicked to separate Quinton from his parents, yet the perpetrator made it worse by purposely putting him in such a terrible family. He was harmed and oppressed from a young age.

Whoever it was must be crazy and inhumane!

“I’m sorry.. Joanne hung her head in guilt.

She refused to bring up the past because she knew her family had ruined Quinton’s life. That, and she was the one who pushed him into an utter abyss.

Yes, Quinton did harm her greatly-but she had done the same to him,

Most of the time, she resigned to her fate and felt that the pain she had endured in the latter part of her life was her karma. She felt that it was the karma for her crazy and outrageous family.

“I know my family caused your brother’s tragedy. I can’t calmly make peace with him as if nothing has happened. My guilt doesn’t allow me to do that. Plus, my hatred didn’t drive me away from him. It’s because of my selfishness. I wanted to get away from the situation where I kept punishing myself. I’m so sorry!”

Joanne’s eyes were red as she sobbed and confessed everything to Flossie.

Her family had been torturing Quinton, turning him into a gloomy and vicious demon when in fact, he was God’s favored child.

However, Flossie let bygones be bygones and kept helping Joanne. She pulled Joanne out of her abyss and kept teaching Joanne, leading Joanne into a normal path.

It filled Joanne with shame.

“Don’t say sorry to me. You and your family are different. You’re my brother’s light. I should thank you instead,” Flossie said.

She took a deep breath as resentment gleamed in her eyes.

“The mastermind hidden behind your family is the worst!”

She had no way of knowing the past between that mastermind with the Ellsworth family, so she couldn’t tell which party was in the wrong.

There was one thing that Flossie could confirm, though. The mastermind behind that scheme must have hated the Ellsworth family vehemently. If not, they wouldn’t use such a despicable and long-term tactic to take revenge on the Ellsworth farmily.

Quinton was the only son of the Ellsworth family and represented the future of the Ellsworth family. If they simply wanted to vent their anger, they could just kill Quinton.

But they didn’t do that. Instead, they made him live a shabby and vulgar life. Then, they watched with a nasty interest how the Garcia family tortured Quinton until he grew up.

No one could grow up to be a pure and nice person under such circumstances. That might be their purpose-they were insane and outrageous.

“Don’t thank me. If it weren’t for me, your brother wouldn’t end up like this…” Joanne said, sobbing quietly.

“You don’t know what happened to me the night before the college entrance examination. I won’t tell you, either. But it was on that night that Quinton finally failed to hold back after suppressing himself all that while. He took me away from that devil’s home. At that time, he was just a teenager. We led a wandering life and suffered a lot of nasty looks and humiliation. I can’t tell you everything in a short time…’ she went on.

“It wasn’t because of you.” Flossie held Joanne’s hand and tried to ease Joanne’s sadness.

“You said it,” she continued. “That was a devil’s home. He would run away even without you. But you made him human. I need to thank you. If you weren’t by his side in that house all that while, he might really be ruined by now.”

Quinton was just a little extreme and gloomy, but he wasn’t a bad guy. It might be because Joanne was by his side as he was growing up.

If Joanne wasn’t around, or if she harmed Quinton like her family, he would be ruined. He would never even reunite with Flossie.

“I think both you and Quinton are the victims. The most despicable person is the mastermind behind this! Flossie gnashed her teeth. “I must find out who it is and give justice to you guys and my family!”

For the subsequent few days, Flossie gave Joanne lessons while investigating the Garcia family’s adoption of Quinton.

However, the seemingly clear lead suddenly broke, as though someone deliberately and secretly stopped her.

After several attempts, Flossie grew more determined. She was certain there must be something fishy in it.

One ordinary weekend, she took the two children hiking. The spot she chose was a wild mountain around 60 miles away from Beach City. Leia, her best friend, tagged along.

Leia and Xavier had talked things out recently, and were quite lovey-dovey.

The two children hiked quickly and steadily. Flossie and Leia followed them calmly while chatting.

“Are you going to get married to Xavier soon?” Flossie asked.

“Oh, stop that! We’re the kind of people who don’t get married. We’ll just enjoy our relationship,” Lela said, gasping as she leaned on the hiking stick. She sounded quite casual. “Oh, so you guys won’t get married?”

“What’s so great about getting married? A lot of married couples regret it. Getting married will only exhaust affection. I don’t want to see myself and Xavier end up hating each other…” Although Leia was a love-struck fool, she knew what she should do.

“Romance is beautiful, but if we get married, we need to face a lot of things. It’ll be the union of our families and us. We’re different individuals, but we need to be united. Of course, we need to abandon some parts of ourselves. Both Xavier and I are very self-conscious. Neither of us will compromise. If we want a long romance, we can’t get married.”

‘That’s logical.” Flossie nodded.

Upon dwelling on her marriage with Halston, she found it similar.

“Getting married doesn’t always promise a happy ending. Most of the time, it’ll be a disaster. Although it seems to be a union, it’s actually a binding situation. If we miss each other despite our free statuses, then it’s true love.”

“Yeah, that’s true!” Lela snapped her fingers. “If he loves you, he can’t run away. The marriage certificate is nothing more than a plece of paper. If he still stays with you without this paper, then he’s really in love with you.”

Both Flossie and Leia reached the same understanding about marriage.

Flossie felt that she might lead a very happy life even though she didn’t get married. She suddenly felt much more relaxed with this idea, as if she had let go of a heavy task.

She didn’t have to force herself to get to know anyone or spend time with them. She would let nature take its course.

While hiking, Flossie suddenly brought up Liam, Leia’s brother. “Speaking of, your brother is a perfect example.”

“Many years ago, I heard the same logic from him. At that time, I thought he was an immature guy. The ending of romance must be marriage! Two unrelated people can only be united by getting married. Now, I guess I was a bit old-fashioned…”

A sigh escaped Flossie. She laughed at herself.

“It’s never marriage that keeps romance intact. On the contrary, it’ll speed up the ruin. Your brother’s mind is more advanced than ours.”

Leia cleared her throat awkwardly.

“Yes, he had rather advanced thoughts before. But honestly, the texts he sent me lately show that he has abandoned those ideas.

“What do you mean?” Flossie asked curiously.

She hadn’t gotten in touch with Liarn lately, but he had sent her a letter inquiring about her affairs some time ago. However, he rarely brought up his situation. He just mentioned that he was doing very well, and told her to not worry about him.

Even so, Flossie would of course worry about him. Liam had sacrificed himself to help Flossie and Joanne escape that hellish place.

Flossie had no idea how he was doing lately. She had wanted to visit him many times, but real- life circumstances kept her from doing so.

“Is he doing fine? Is he having any problems?” Flossie asked Lela eagerly.

“I guess…he’s doing fine.” Leia stammered.
