Filed to story: A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love
“Hey…” Halston began.
When Francine suddenly left, Halston felt ridiculous and awkward.
He looked at Flossie awkwardly, and explained, “You know my mother. She always speaks nastily, and doesn’t watch her tongue. It gets worse now that she’s older. Don’t take it to heart.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve heard things worse than that from her and I was fine with it. Plus, I think she’s reasonable.”
“Where?” Halston curiously whispered a question.
“The thing between men and women.” Flossie nodded in agreement. “It doesn’t sound nice, sure, but it’s full of simple knowledge.
Halston was speechless. “You two are insane. You should stop spending time with her.”
Francine’s madness knew no limit. If Flossie spent a long time with Francine, Francine’s bad habits would rub off on her.
Flossie couldn’t stop herself from asking, “Anyway, what am I doing here?”
She remembered leaving the restaurant first, but she was dizzy since she was drunk. She had no idea where she had gone to.
Later, she remembered accidentally walking into a forest and saw many mushrooms. She found the prettiest mushroom and wanted to pick it, but she had no idea what happened in the end.
However, crazy Halston brought her to Guajardo Manor.
Flossie wondered if Halston wanted to complicate their relationship and make it more melodramatic.
“You were quite drunk last night, and I didn’t know where I should take you to…”. Halston explained arrogantly, ‘It’d be hard to explain if I brought you to a hotel. If I drove you back to Ellsworth Manor, your brother and I would fight. If I go back to our old villa…
At that point, Halston paused and looked solemn. His expression was unreadable.
“What would happen if we went to our old villa?” Flossie couldn’t understand him. “If you wanted to avoid trouble, you should drive me back there in secret. Isn’t that safer?”
The old villa was registered under her name, so it was no different from returning to her home. It would seem more logical than driving her to a hotel, Ellsworth Manor, or Guajardo Manor.
After some hesitation, Halston told the truth. “Because… I was scared.”
“Scared?” Flossie got more confused. “Isn’t that villa nice? People are guarding it. Are there any ghosts? Was that why you were scared?”
“I wasn’t afraid of ghosts.”
A long sigh escaped Halston.
Then, he whispered, “I was afraid of recalling the past and my feelings.”
Halston’s words brought silence to the two of them.
Stunned, Flossie moved her lips. She wanted to say something, but in the end, she decided against it.
“Mrs. Guajardo was right. I should leave. If not, things will get more troublesome when Grandpa wakes up,” she finally said.
From Halston’s words, there was a possibility they would get tangled up again. If he was afraid of recalling their past and feelings, he must still harbor affection for her.
However, Flossie was exhausted by it all. She wanted to stop feeling conflicted about such things. It was fine whether he still had feelings for her or not. All she wanted was a safe and peaceful life. If she kept getting mixed up with him, it wouldn’t do any good. They would just get hurt.
Hence, it was unnecessary.
Flossie stood up straight, acting like an emotionless robot. She brushed past him and went downstairs.
Halston stood rooted to the spot, silent and poker-faced.
One step, two steps, three steps…
Their backs were faced against each other-one stood on higher ground, the other lower. It seemed as though they were two parallel lines that would never cross. They would grow further apart as they moved in different directions.
“Wait!”
At last, Halston flexed his fingers. He still couldn’t bear to see her go, and indulged in his feelings.
“It’s still early. You drank without eating anything last night. Plus, you vomited everything. Why don’t… Why don’t you have breakfast before you go?”
He had to admit, he couldn’t bear to part with her. Spending even a short amount of time with her was precious to him. He greedily wanted to prolong that feeling, even for…the duration of having breakfast.
Flossie had reached the middle part of the stairs. She held the handrail of the spiral staircase, standing there gracefully. From afar, she looked like an elegant but superior swan.
“I never knew you could be so considerate…” she said indifferently. Then, she laughed at herself. “I only found out after you’ve abandoned me. Hahaha! How ironic!”
“Don’t say that…” Halston frowned, restraining himself. “There’s no such thing between us. It’s just the cruel reality. We chose what would make us happy. If you were in my shoes one day, I’m sure you can understand me. Plus… You’ll make the same choice too.”
His words indirectly proved that he had been in a tough spot.
However, God might find him a terrible human and that he had it too easy regarding romance. Hence, God made him bear pain instead.
He should be thankful that the cruel truth was hidden from Flossie. He should’ve felt lucky he made the right choice in time.
Had Flossie been the one who learned the truth that day, Halston was sure that the situation would be even more painful.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to hint at. If it were in the past, I would have gotten to the bottom of it. But now, I’m exhausted. I don’t want to get tangled up with you again. You know what? I’m exhausted!” Flossie said. She looked tom and agitated, and was trembling slightly. She was trying hard to not break down on the spot.
“It’s like you’re fishing. When you got me by the hook, you let me go. But when I swim away, you put out some fish feed. Do you think that’s fun? Does making me a fool out of me satisfy you that much?”
Flossie couldn’t take it anymore. Her eyes turned red as she vented her true feelings in front of Halston, as if she had been suppressing them for quite a while.
She had appeared casual and straightforward the entire time. She parted with him on good terms, and was even willing to begin a new relationship. She also wished he could choose a new life. Even so, she was no saint. She couldn’t be so indifferent about her romance.
It was just an act. She was always disappointed in herself, as Halston could easily affect her. Even a few casual words from him could either delight her or sadden her for a long time.
She hated that kind of feeling, so much so that she couldn’t stop herself from hating him.
Flossie turned and glared at him, and roared, “What the hell do you want? Just say it! You’re so fickle, it’s driving me up the wall!”
“I’m sorry.”
Halston never imagined he had caused her so much pain. He was saddened for her. He descended the stairs quickly, and pulled her into his embrace.
“All you need to know is that my choices are for only one goal-I want to see you and the kids happy forever!” “Humph! Happy forever?” Flossie stood there in a daze, allowing Halston to hug her. She sneered, though she wanted to cry. “Do I look happy to you?”
“You’re just not used to it now. Your bad mood is just temporary. When you get used to not having me, you’ll feel happy…
Halston let go of Flossie, suppressing his passion for her, and added sincerely, “You’re such a wonderful woman, and you’re full of love. You’ll be happy no matter who you’re with. You’re born with the ability to create happiness.”
It was the same as what she had done in the past. Although she had divorced him and was forced to raise Adie and Abby alone, she led a happy and beautiful life. It was wonderful and healing.
“Thanks for the flattery.”
Flossie remained indifferent, and looked at him coldly.
