On the other hand, Halston was lying there waiting for Flossie’s next move like he was the king’s wife waiting for the king to visit. However, after a few minutes of her not doing anything, he grew disappointed. Flossie had ignited a fire in him, and it was taking all his self-control not to do anything to her. He waited a few more minutes, then finally touched Flossie gently and complained, “Are you messing with me, my dear? Why aren’t you doing anything?”

Flossie pretended to wake up, and said in a nasally voice, “Huh? Who’s sleeping with me? How bold! You’re courting death!” After that, she kicked Halston off her bed.

“Flossie, you’ve got some nerve!” Halston sat on the floor, stunned at the unexpected treatment. His hips ached, and he said coldly, “I might be your plaything, but I have dignity too. How can you humiliate me like this? You’re unbelievable!”

“What are you talking about? What plaything? I don’t understand…”

Flossie stretched as if she had just woken up, and she said innocently, ” Halston? Why are you in my room? Who let you in, you rogue? What are you talking about? I don’t understand at all!”

Halston knew Flossie was pretending, and smiled helplessly. He ran his hand through his hair and said in amusement, “Fine, I’m a shameless rogue that snuck into a decent woman’s bedroom to be her plaything. But, master, you’re awake now, aren’t you? Let me take you downstairs for dinner then, okay?” “Fine, I’ve rested enough anyway. I’ll give you the honor of helping me put on my clothes.” Flossie reached out, waiting for Halston to help her put on clothes.

Halston got to his feet and turned on the light in the room, then carefully helped her into a pair of comfortable pajamas. As he helped her with her clothes, Halston was so close to her he could feel her warm breath on his skin, and his heart pounded in his chest. Once Flossie was dressed, he held Flossie’s waist and murmured in her ear, “You’re wicked, master, turning me on and then leaving me hanging like that. I know that you’re acting dumb, but it’s okay—I’ll get what I’m owed once we’ve both recovered.” “Scoundrel! Don’t you dare come into my room again!” Flossie slapped Halston, sounding coy. It was rare to see her this playful when she was usually so assertive and dominant, and it was only Halston who could make her behave like this. It was also why Xavier thought she was a flirtatious woman. After a few more minutes of being lovey-dovey with each other, Flossie and Halston slowly made their way downstairs.

Adie and Abby had already started eating in the dining room, and were delighted to see their parents.

“Mommy, Daddy, you’re awake! Come and eat. The food Daddy made is really good, and this is already my second serving!” Abby was over the moon because she was eating her favorite brisket with tomato sauce. She grinned at her parents toothily.

Adie, on the other hand, was not as easily impressed. “The food is a bit worse than a top chefs cooking. The meat is a little dry, you didn’t manage to get rid of the fishy smell of the fish, and the pork chop isn’t well cooked … but I’ve got to say that you’ve done a very good job, especially for someone who has never cooked. Well done.”

Both Flossie and Halston were amused by their adorable children.

“Haha! Well, thank you for your comments. I’ll work harder and cook like a top chef soon,” Halston promised Adie humbly as he pulled a chair out and helped Flossie sit down.

“Mm, it’s good that you’re open-minded. Don’t worry, there’s a lot of room for improvement for you. I’m rooting for you!” Adie patted Halston’s shoulder as if he was a retired commander.

Flossie frowned and gently chided Adie, “Don’t be rude, Adie. He’s your daddy.” Her heart had warmed at how the arrogant Halston became so humble in front of his children. Flossie had treated him like a plaything, and now the two children were treating him like a personal chef. Flossie figured he must really be miserable trying to pacify so many people.

Halston, however, was at his happiest and most relaxed doing all this.

After such a lovely dinner, Flossie suddenly felt like calling Quinton. Usually, she’d come up with an excuse to end calls with Quinton because of her condition, but after tonight, she felt much more relaxed. She had calmly accepted her condition, and bravely called Quinton.

After a while, Quinton picked up her call. “Flossie, why are you calling? Are you in trouble?” At that moment, Quinton was south of the sea, gathering manpower and materials to go diving for the treasure that had suddenly capsized. He’d been feeling rather defeated because he hadn’t gotten anything, and he’d also been worrying that Flossie might bump into crooks at Beach City. Unfortunately, he couldn’t go home just yet, so he was happy to see that Flossie called. However, he couldn’t help but feel worried as well because Flossie wouldn’t call without a reason.

“You’re so pessimistic, Quinton. Can’t I call because I want to share something happy with you?” Flossie asked teasingly as she sat on the bean bag on the top floor and swung her legs leisurely.

“Yes, I can tell that you’re happy. What happened?” A sigh of relief escaped Quinton, and he smiled.

“Hmm… How should I put it? I hired a pretty good helper at home. He does everything perfectly, and he cooks well. He doesn’t even ask for high pay, and he works hard without complaints. I feel like I’ve struck the lottery!” Flossie giggled like a young girl in love, but she couldn’t tell Quinton that Halston was the helper since he was Quinton’s sworn enemy.

“He’s really that good?”

“He is!”

“But we’ve got to find loyal helpers since they’re the ones taking care of us. Even if their services are cheap, it’ll be troublesome if they have ulterior motives.” Quinton’s instincts told him that this helper was extraordinary, but in his opinion, nothing was free in this world. He didn’t know if it was a blessing or disaster that such a perfect helper had suddenly come to Flossie.

“You’re overthinking, Quinton, he’s just a helper. If he does a good job, I’ll keep him. If not, I’ll fire him. He can’t try anything with me,” Flossie said, smiling smugly. She felt that Quinton was too cautious, and his worries were groundless.

“But I’m still worried…” After a brief contemplation, Quinton said seriously, “Give your phone to your helper. I’ll speak to him for a bit.”

“Umm… I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” Flossie backtracked, regretting having boasted about Halston so much. If Quinton learned that she had gotten entangled with Halston again, he’d be furious.

“There’s nothing wrong with it if he’s sincere, plus, I’m just going to talk to him on the phone. What are you afraid of if there’s nothing wrong with him?” Quinton immediately became suspicious, and tried to persuade Flossie to let him talk to the helper.

Knowing she couldn’t dissuade Quinton, Flossie braced herself and called Halston upstairs. “Okay, wait. I’ll call him over and ask him to call you later.”

Halston was helping the children with schoolwork in the study, but when he heard Flossie call him, he hurried upstairs.

“What’s the matter, master?” Halston asked teasingly.

“Stop messing around. It’s serious,” Flossie grumbled, “I was on the phone with my brother, and I told him that I found a good helper, but he thinks you have ulterior motives and wants to interrogate you. So, you’ve got to talk to him nicely when you call him later. Don’t expose yourself, okay?”

Halston frowned. “Why do you want to keep me a secret?”

“It’s just better to avoid trouble. I told him long ago that I would cut myself off from you, and I’ve already broken my promise. Forget about my brother being disappointed in me, I’m disappointed in myself!” Flossie complained. She thought that she was someone who always kept her word and stuck to her principles, but it seemed like she broke all her rules when it came to Halston.

“I’m sure he can recognize my voice. How can I not expose myself?”

“Well, you can try to talk in a feminine voice, I’m sure he won’t be able to tell… It’s perfect since you’re a helper too,” Flossie suggested mischievously. She did want to fool Quinton, but she also wanted to hear Halston talking in a feminine voice. It would be hilarious.

“Okay.” Halston raised his brows and agreed. He took Flossie’s phone and called Quinton.

“Hello, you’re the new helper my sister hired?” Quinton asked sternly, hoping to intimidate the helper.

“Yes.” To Flossie’s shock, Halston spoke normally and said,” I’m Halston.”

“What? Who… are you?” Quinton was astonished.

Flossie’s jaw dropped, and she didn’t know what to do.” Halston, what… are you doing? Didn’t I ask you to use a different voice? You…”

Nonchalantly, Halston said, “Flossie is now my responsibility. Our goals are the same regardless of our past feud-we both want to protect Flossie and make her happy. So… I hope you won’t meddle too much in this.” Before Quinton could say anything, Halston spoke first. His tone was sincere and formal, but it was undeniably very touching.

After a brief pause, Quinton asked icily, “Are you serious this time?”

“I was always serious, but many things happened in the past, and she and I always missed each other.”

“Well, can you guarantee that there won’t be any accidents this time?”

“There might be, but I promise you that I’ll stay with Flossie forever, and we’ll face any obstacles together.”

“You want my sister to suffer with you?” Quinton asked sharply.

Before Halston could answer, Flossie snatched her phone back and said quickly, “It’s getting late, Quinton. You’d better go to bed!”

A sigh escaped Quinton. “You’re protecting him again. It looks like you still haven’t learned from your mistakes.”

“I know what I’m doing. He and I have soldiered through a lot of hardships, and all I want to do now is lead a peaceful life and take things one step at a time…” Flossie was still devastated over the loss of her sight, and she felt that if she couldn’t follow her heart and spend the rest of her life with her beloved, her life would be as dark as her world. She did not want to spend the rest of her life in misery.

“But you both can’t live peacefully together, your identities have always prevented that from happening. I’ve found some clues about the families who conspired to attack our family back then, and I feel like the enemies we’re going to face will be stronger than anyone we’ve ever encountered.” Quinton’s voice grew more solemn. Generally, he disliked talking about bad things, and he was reluctant to discuss their revenge with Flossie because he didn’t want to ruin her mood.

However, he had been feeling lonely and sad while working days and nights at sea, and he wanted to confide in someone.

“Really? Which families were it? How could they kick us when we were down? We can’t let them off the hook!” Flossie

Flossie protested agitatedly, clenching her fists. She was blind, but she wasn’t hopeless. She would risk her life to make her enemies pay if she found the murderer who killed her parents and ruined her family.

“It’s… complicated. Maybe Halston has the right to know too. I’ll tell you when I get home,” Quinton said hesitantly, not wanting to expose the truth.

“Halston? Is it related to the Guajardo family?” Flossie’s heart pounded in her chest. If the destruction of the Ellsworth family was related to the Guajardo family, she wouldn’t be able to accept it. Halston’s relationship with her aside, their grandfathers were good friends and allies, so their families shouldn’t be enemies. Maybe the fortune teller was right—maybe she and Halston were just incompatible, and they’d face many obstacles if they were together.

“Calm down. Yes, it’s related to the Guajardo family, but it’s not what you think. I wouldn’t have spoken to Halston that calmly otherwise,” Quinton said, trying to reassure Flossie.

“So the Guajardo family didn’t attack us when the Baldwin did?” Flossie asked instantly.

“Of course not. The friendship between the Guajardo and Ellsworth families was stronger than we thought. You’ll know the truth when I come home.” Quinton had discovered a lot of things, and it involved a lot of families. It could not be explained in a word or two, and he wanted to tell her in detail face-to-face.
