“What are you doing, mother?” I asked, glaring at my mum who wanted to enter the house through the backdoor.
After what happened between her and I, f*orcing me to send Scarlett to that place, breaking her, as my grandparents did to her, there was a major gap created that made our conversations more or less formal. “I am here to see my granddaughter, and I do not think that you or that little mate of yours have the right to prevent me from doing” she said, glaring at me “you have been stopping me form that since she arrived here, and you wouldn’t even allow me to go with her to the doctor’s appointment when I was the one usually escorting her…”
“Scarlett is her mother, and SHE is the one that is going to escort her daughter. As for me not letting you see her, I believe that you are well aware of my reasons. My daughter has suffered as much as my mate has when we separated them, and as a she-wolf, a mother to be more accurate, I am surprised that you even suggested such a thing” I said, glaring at her “it only proved to me how cold your heart became over the years”
“Cold or not, I am the one who knows what is best for my grandchild. Her being an omega’s daughter would teach her nothing about strength. Her mother cannot even fend for herself, and I do not think…”
“What you think does not matter to me” I said, stopping her. The doctor’s words about my daughter being upset the way she was, constantly crying, and almost always sick before being related to her mother not being around played in my head, and despite not saying anything about it, I knew that Scarlett did not let it slide. And I wouldn’t expect her to if I were going to be honest.
“I am your mother…”
“Exactly, you are MY mother, and you raised me the way that you saw fit. Anastasia is not your daughter, she is Scarlett’s. I do not think that you allowed my grandparents to raise me; therefore, I will not allow you to kill her off her daughter’s life” I snapped stopping her. Her eyes widened in surprise, and taking a step back, it was as if she was suddenly seeing ghosts.
“Who told you that they did not raise you?” She asked, shaking her head at me “who told you that they hadn’t removed you from me when you were a day old? I barely fed you before they took you again to educate you right, and I am no omega”
I stayed quiet, processing what she was saying before she shook her head at me “I saved your life from them that night. They invited that omega family to their house, and took you from me without my knowledge. Had it not been for me sensing you in there during the fire, I would have lost you that night”
“What?” I asked, frowning in confusion, trying to process what she was saying. Her tears fell from her eyes as she looked at me, and seeing Scarlett come down, mom’s eyes went from that of pain to one of anger.
“You are the f*ucking debt that I cannot find myself paying. F*ucking hell, no matter how much I tried, I could not pay it. Whether it was putting you in the best schools, raising you, giving you allowance…” she said, wiping her tears “their blood is still in my hand…”
“Mum…?”
Mum walked out of the house without saying a word. Her hands shook, and her heart raced, and turning to face Scarlett, I found her frowning in confusion as she tried processing what we just heard. Her heart was racing just as fast as mine, and looking at her, I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly.
“Scarlett, what was my mother talking about?” I asked, trying to process, hoping that it wasn’t what I understood. If she was the one in charge of the fire that night, then she didn’t only need to face me, she would be having to face dad, the council, and the felony to that could be her death.
“I don’t know, Alexander, but I truly do hope that I understood wrong, because if what I understood was correct, then Luna Katelyn had more than just one thing to explain to everyone…”
“Alexander, you need to sit down” Scarlett said, wrapping her arms around me, hugging me from the back as she tried stopping me. I nodded and put my hand on her knuckle, running my finger over it as I tried calming my breathing down.
“I can’t seem to think straight, Scarlett. I am trying to, I swear, but I just can’t” I said honestly. She turned to face me, and cupping her cheeks, I sighed as I pulled her to my c*hest “if she is in charge of your parents death, I am so sorry, Scarlett. The pain that you’ve been through…”
“Alexander, Alex” she said, cupping my cheeks, making me look at her. She took deep and slow breaths, motioning for me to follow in doing so, and smiling at me, she pulled me to her c*hest, hugging me tightly “whatever the situation is. I do not want you to keep worrying about it. Yes, it happened, and we will not change the past, but we can only work with the facts that we have and accusing your mum with no evidence would only cause issues; therefore, I want you to breathe and try to digest this”
“Scarlett…”
“Alexander, listen to me” she said, her tone softening “believe me, the fire that is burning my c*hest right now is more than the one you will ever deal with. Why? Because I am the one who lost them, and I am the one who dealt with the pain. I trusted that woman and called her mother until a certain age, thinking that she was my mother; but right now, you overthinking this would do you no good, especially with the full moon coming. You are going to shift, and the last thing that you will need is to deal with such a mess”
“F*uck…”
“Yes, exactly. The pack is having new shifters again, and we do not want them entering any territories. We have been dealing with enough of that shit, and the last things you need right now are to be distracted or requested to lock them up in cages until they were trained enough to be able to walk in the open” Scarlett said, looking me in the eye as she spoke “we will manage to get over what happened when we have found out what it is, but now, I just want you to be calm, okay?”
“Okay” I said, my heart skipping a beat when she wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in for a hug before she k*issed my n*eck. Her k*iss was gentle, and running my fingers over her lower back, she shuddered as a smile formed on her l*ips.
“Good, now go and freshen up while I go check on Nasia, then the two of us can enjoy a nice night together with no noise” Scarlett said, making me smirk.
“With Nasia, I don’t think that it is passible to have a no noise night” I teased, knowing that she would glare at me.
“Oh, just bloody shut up and enjoy the moment” Scarlett said, making me chuckle “now, go and get ready. I will be coming with you…”
