“What a crazy road it took us to get here,”
I chuckled. “For a while, I didn’t think this day would ever come. I thought we were too different and that we’d reject each other and move on. But I was wrong and I’m glad that I was because I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone other than you. I couldn’t imagine anyone else to have pups with. You have become my rock in such a short time. You are my protector. You are my home. I love you so much.”
Enzo smiled at my words and then he cleared his throat before he began to speak.
“I will always be your protector,”
he said in return. “I’ll do whatever I have to keep my family safe. You, Cooper, and Asher, are my family. I will never let anything happen to you three. I know these last couple of years haven’t been easy. We’ve faced many challenges together, but we’ve overcome them together and that’s what I want from our lives together. I want us to overcome obstacles together because it will only make us stronger. Words can’t express how much I love you, but I promise I’m going to prove to you every day just how much you mean to me and how much I am head over heels in love with you.”
Tears spilled from my eyes again as Enzo wrapped me in his arms.
I heard sniffling around me, and I knew others were crying as well; it made me feel better knowing I wasn’t alone.
“Lila, do you take Alpha Enzo to be your husband? To have and to hold? For better or worse? Sickness, and in health? Till death do you part?”
“You bet I do,”
I whispered, keeping my eyes locked on Enzo’s.
“And do you accept Alpha Enzo as your Alpha? Do you accept his authority and understand his duties as pack Alpha?”
“Yes,”
I said, nodding my head.
This was doubling as an inauguration into the pack. After this ceremony, I will officially be a part of Enzo’s pack and I’ll be able to mindlink with the Calypso pack members.
“And lastly, do you accept your role as Luna of the Calypso pack? To protect it even if it means losing your life? To care for your pack members as if they were family and to work alongside your Alpha to keep your members safe and happy?”
I nodded again.
“Yes,”
I answered, my smile growing.
This was tripling as a Luna ceremony as well.
He then looked at Enzo.
“Alpha Enzo, do you take Lila as your wife? To have and to hold? For better or worse? For sickness and in health? Till death do you part?
“I do,”
Enzo said softly, almost breathlessly.
“And do you accept her as a member of your pack?”
“I do,”
he said again.
“And do you accept her as your Luna?”
“I do,”
he answered.
“Then I now pronounce you husband and wife; Alpha and Luna,”
the priest announced. “You may kiss the bride.”
Enzo bent and brushed his lips across mine, sending a wave of warmth to wash throughout my body. Everybody in the room clapped and cheered for us, making me burst out laughing as the nurse ran in with a frazzled look on her face.
She didn’t like that so many people were in this room, and she made that painfully known.
“We should probably go,”
Dee said with a nervous chuckle, ushering my friends out of the room. My mother and Diana began to walk toward me with the babies, but then they both stopped, and their eyes widened.
“Oh, my goddess…”
I breathed.
“Did Cooper open his eyes?”
Diana asked. “Because Asher just did.”
“Yes,”
my mother whispered. “He opened his eyes.”
“What’s wrong? Are they okay?”
I asked, panic rising through me.
Enzo went to our mothers to look at what they were looking at and his smile was radiant as he looked down at our boys.
“What is it?”
I asked again, more urgently.
Enzo brought his gaze up to meet mine.
“They are both Volana wolves.”
Lila’s POV
“They are both Volana wolves?”
I whispered, staring at the pups.
My mother and Diana brought me the twins so that I could see for myself. When I was met with two pairs of violet eyes and two pairs of blue eyes, my heart swelled with joy. Tears instantly filled my eyes as I held my two Volana boys.
“I guess we got the stronger jeans,”
my mother teased as she rubbed my head.
I chuckled as I peered up at Enzo who stood with a clenched jaw, but there was amusement in his eyes.
“Enzo has Volana’s in his family too, don’t forget,”
Diana said with a chuckle.
Enzo walked toward me and it excited Val like it always does. I loved that he had this effect on me. He ran his fingers down the side of my face, making me tremble from his touch. Then he brought his lips down and brushed them across mine. I closed my eyes and soaked in his embrace and his kiss.
One of the twins started to squirm in my arms and I looked down to see Asher, wiggling and then a small cry escaped his lips.
“Awe, Ash, it’s okay,”
I said, bouncing him slightly with my forearm.
There was a soft knock on the door and after a second, Dr. Schmitt popped her head inside. When her eyes found me, she smiled.
“Sorry to interrupt,”
she said, closing the door behind her. “I came to grab the babies for some bloodwork.”
I didn’t want the doctor to take my babies away, but I knew it was necessary. I almost lost them; it was a miracle that they were still alive.
I handed my babies off to Dr. Schmitt and watched as they left the room.
“You should use this as an opportunity to get some rest, Lila Bean,”
my mother said, giving me a wink. “I’ll come back to visit later.”
She bent and kissed me lovingly on the forehead.
“I’m going too,”
Diana said as she gave me a quick hug and then turned to hug Enzo. “I’ll see you both later.”
With that being said, our mothers left, leaving Enzo and me alone in the hospital room. I was utterly exhausted; my mother was right. I needed to use now as the opportunity to nap. Enzo must have had the same thought because the next thing I knew he was sliding under the covers of the bed and wrapping me tightly in his arms.
I laid my head on his chest and listened to the rhythmic beat of his heart. I felt so safe with Enzo, and I knew whenever I was with him, nothing bad could ever hurt us. We are much stronger together than we are apart.
With his warmth and protection, I was finally able to fall asleep.
