“Even if I don’t love her, she’s still going to be my future wife. I don’t think love should take up a huge part in life. For me, she’s the most suitable choice,” Lornell said nonchalantly.

“The best choice?” Ursula asked, her face full of bitterness. “Just because she’s the daughter of the

Hart family? So you think she’s suitable? If she wasn’t the daughter of the Hart family if she didn’t have the Hart family backing her, would you still feel the same way?”

“There’s no such ‘if’, she is the daughter of the Hart family!” Lornell said coldly, “And I’ve never liked to speculate on ‘ifs’. For me, there are no ‘ifs’ in life!”

After saying this, Lornell couldn’t be bothered to give Ursula another glance and just walked away.

Ursula stood frozen in place, her face pale as a ghost. She clenched her hands, which hung limply by her sides, in a show of defiance.

She believed that her humble beginnings were the reason she couldn’t be with Lornell.

If she had a family background like Harley’s, she might be the one engaged to Lornell today!

Perhaps Lornell will fall in love with her because of this!

It was just because she didn’t come from a good family, simply because the life God initially gave her was not good!

But she didn’t just give up like this!

One day, she lived a better life than others, making those who once looked down on her not dare to underestimate her again.

When others introduced her, she was no longer just a distant relative of the Quentin family!

Meanwhile, on the other side, Harley, who was hiding in a corner, couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh.

She went back because she suddenly wanted to greet her parents with Lornell. She didn’t want her parents to feel uneasy about her situation. At least on the surface, she hoped her parents would think

Lornell was treating her well.

But what Harley didn’t expect was that he overheard the conversation just now.

Turns out, Lornell really didn’t love her at all. He was only with her because she was a suitable choice.

If she didn’t have the backing of the Hart family, Lornell probably wouldn’t give her a second glance!

And Harley, he didn’t even dare to step forward just now!

Only after Lornell and Ursula had left did Harley slowly emerge from the corner.

Perhaps Harley should be grateful. She just came back and heard all this. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know to what extent she’s been deceiving herself!

Harley took a deep breath, then turned around and left.

She thought she would cry, but she didn’t!

Perhaps Harley had already harbored such suspicions in her heart, or maybe she was just tired of love for too long. So, when she heard Lornell say this, she actually felt a sense of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.

When he returned to the lobby, Harley once again saw Lornell.

Lornell stepped forward, “I haven’t greeted your parents today. Would you accompany me to say hello?”

“Alright,” Harley responded nonchalantly, walking over to his parents with Lornell.

At that moment, Brian and Valda were chatting with Lornell’s parents and grandfather, as well as some relatives from the Quentin family.

After Harley and Lornell walked over, everyone looked at these two young men with smiles.

“Can’t believe they’ve grown up so fast. Once Harley graduates, we could start considering their marriage,” said Lornell’s dad.

“Yes, get married sooner, so we can have a grandchild earlier. Lornell’s grandfather is also eager to see his great-grandchild!” chimed in Lornell’s mother.

Lornell’s grandfather watched them with a smile, while Valda looked at her daughter with some concern, wanting to say something, but was held back by Brian.

Brian began, “Harley still has a few years until graduation. If the two young people are really that in love, then it would be a good thing for them to get married and start a family after graduation.”

However, if the relationship wasn’t that strong, then naturally, a lot could have changed over the years!

The folks from the Quentin family were all quite sharp, so naturally, they could decipher the true meaning behind Brian’s words.

However, both parties didn’t say anything more, they just resumed their usual chat.

Once the banquet was over and the Hart family had left, Mrs. Quentin turned to her son and asked,

“Lornell, what’s going on with the Hart family? Don’t tell me there’s been some sort of hitch with your engagement to Harley.”

Upon hearing this, Lornell scoffed, “There won’t be any mishaps. After all, they are dealing with us, the

Quentins. They can’t just cancel it as they want.”

“Yeah, that’s true. After all, it was our Quentin family who saved Harley’s life, so naturally, they have to take the engagement seriously.”

However, as she said this, Mrs. Quentin looked at her son with an inquisitive gaze, “But what kind of feelings do you have for Harley?”

Honestly, even as his mother, she had a hard time understanding Lornell’s issues with his relationships.

To say that he liked Harley didn’t quite hit the mark. From her perspective, it had always been Harley who was more into Lornell.

But if you were to say that Lornell didn’t like Harley, well, they had been engaged for many years and everything had been peaceful. Lornell had never shown any intention of breaking off the engagement.

In fact, Lornell seemed to care quite a bit about this engagement. She even once tested Lornell, asking if they should call off the engagement, but Lornell flatly refused.

“What kind of feelings should I have?” Lornell retorted.

“Do you really like her or not?” Mrs. Quentin sighed, “Although I want to hold my grandchild sooner, I also hope that you’ll have a happy marriage. After what the Hart family just said, I’m afraid even if

Harley graduates, you two won’t be getting married anytime soon.”

“I’m not in a hurry. After all, getting married is just a matter of time,” Lornell said.

“So what do you think?” Mrs. Quentin was getting impatient.

“Harley is a good match for me,” Lornell replied. “I think her personality is quite decent. She doesn’t stir up trouble everywhere, nor does she put pressure on others. Being with her feels comfortable. Plus, with the background of the Hart family, she’s well-suited to be my wife.”

“Just suitable?” Mrs. Quentin was taken aback. Clearly, she hadn’t expected this answer from her son.

“Yeah, she’s the perfect choice for me, isn’t she?” said Lornell.

“But just being compatible doesn’t necessarily mean your marriage will last!” Mrs. Quentin expressed concern.

Lornell suddenly snorted with laughter, “But Mom, didn’t you marry Dad because he was a good match for you?”

As soon as Lornell spoke, Mrs. Quentin’s face changed instantly, with certain long-buried memories flashing through her mind.

She couldn’t help wondering if Lornell heard what she said back then. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said something like this.

“Alright, Mom, you don’t need to worry about my marriage. I know what I’m doing,” Lornell said, before walking away.

The worry in Mrs. Quentin’s eyes, however, was even more intense.

She kept wondering whether Lornell would regret it if things continued like this.

Lornell just hadn’t met the person he loved yet. But one day, if he really did meet someone he could love, he might realize that being with the right person didn’t necessarily guarantee happiness.

At this moment, the three members of the Hart family had returned home.

Suddenly, Harley said seriously, “Mom, Dad, there’s something I need to tell you!”

The sudden seriousness on Harley’s face took Brian and Valda by surprise. They exchanged a glance, and Brian said, “We’re all ears, go ahead!”

“I want to break off my engagement with Lornell!” Harley finally blurted out.

Brian and Valda were taken aback by what Harley had said. The couple glanced at each other, and finally, it was Brian who broke the silence. “Did something unpleasant happen between you and Lornell at the banquet today?” he asked.

When Harley and Lornell came over to say hello earlier, he noticed that his daughter’s expression was a bit off, and her eyes weren’t following Lornell around like they usually did.

“Nothing unpleasant happened,” Harley said nonchalantly, “I just came to understand a few things, that’s all!”

“What have you figured out?” Valda asked.

“I understand that to Lornell, I’m just the most suitable marriage partner, but not the one he loves,”

Harley confessed. She thought such a reality would cause her great pain, but perhaps she’s been hurting for so long that she’s now numb.

Harley looked up at his parents, “Mom, Dad, I know that my decision might cause trouble for our family.

If we really break off the engagement, it could cost us a lot. People might even say that we’re ungrateful. But ever since I was a kid, I’ve admired your love for each other. I’ve always hoped that one day, I could have a love like that too. But…”

She paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and said, “I know, there will never be such a love between me and Lornell. So, I want to break off our engagement!”

Valda’s eyes welled up with tears. She had always been a witness to Harley’s feelings for Lornell.

She’s always understood that when it comes to love, it’s always been her daughter who’s been the one giving everything.

Once, she had hoped that her daughter could break off the engagement with the Quentin family. Even if it meant the Hart family had to pay a price for it, it didn’t matter. All she wanted was her daughter’s happiness!

But Harley refused to give up. He would rather strive to maintain this engagement, even if it meant continuing to give unilaterally.

She still remembered her daughter once telling her, “Mom, I really like Lornell. I believe that as long as

I keep liking him and treating him well, he will eventually start to like me too! Even if he doesn’t like me as much as I like him, it’s okay. I will gradually make him like me more!”

Back then, when Harley was speaking those words, her face was full of girlish dreams.

And now, after hearing what Harley had to say, she could almost picture the heartbreak and disappointment he must have gone through to decide to call off the engagement.

Valda’s heart ached for her daughter.

Brian looked at his daughter, “Are you sure about this? Do you really want to break off the engagement? Once we propose to the Quentin family to end the engagement, there might be no turning back.”

“I’ve made up my mind,” Harley said seriously, “I don’t want my marriage to be just ‘suitable’ in this lifetime!”

“Alright then! Your mother and I will get things ready. In a few days, we’ll propose to the Quentin family to call off the engagement!” said Brian.

Brian didn’t care what it cost, all he cared about was whether his daughter was happy!

“Dad, thank you!” Harley said, “And… I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to say sorry!” Brian lifted his hand, gently stroking his daughter’s head, “This is what we should do as your parents. All you need to do is figure out what you want and what you don’t.”
