“I’m sorry, I was unconscious before and didn’t know you were looking for me,” Nancy said.
“Don’t apologize, I should be the one apologizing!” Jasper said. “If it weren’t for me being so useless, you wouldn’t have had to jump like that. You jumped to save me!”
Jasper said seriously, “Nancy, from now on, no matter what happens, I will stand by your side. If you have any difficulties, I will help you solve them!”
“No…there’s no need for that. Anyway, Irene didn’t plan to let me go that day. I just didn’t want to let her off the hook!” Nancy quickly said.
Jasper’s promise was too precious and not something she could accept.
“Even if Irene didn’t plan to let you go, the fact is that you saved Jasper from danger,” Jason said. “The
Reed family owes you a great debt of gratitude and we will naturally repay you.”
Nancy bit her lip. “You’ve already done so much for me by letting me stay in this great hospital and having expert doctors diagnose me. I’m very grateful, and I don’t need anything else.”
“Is that so?” Jason said. “You can ask for a lot, even if you want a share of the Reed family’s stocks.
“No, no!” Nancy quickly refused. “I…I just want to get better and be able to leave the hospital smoothly…that’s all.”
Jason said, “Once your health improves, we will arrange for you to receive better treatment in Emerald
City.
Plus, it will be easier for Mick to take care of you there.”
“Go back to Emerald City?” Nancy was taken aback. After a moment of silence, she said, “Thank you for your kindness, but I don’t plan on going back to Emerald City.”
“How can you not go back to Emerald City? You’re pregnant with your elder brother’s child, so of course you have to go back to Emerald City!” Jasper blurted out.
After all, Nancy’s bulging belly made it obvious to anyone that she was pregnant.
And before they came here, they had already learned all about Nancy’s situation in the past few months.
They knew that she had been discovered and had been in a coma for five months, during which time she was found to be 25 weeks pregnant.
Nancy’s body suddenly stiffened. “No, the child is not Mick’s!” This was almost without thinking, instinctively coming out of her mouth.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room became awkward, as if it had suddenly fallen silent.
Jasper opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but for a moment he didn’t know what to say.
It was Mick who spoke, “You guys go out first, I’ll talk to Nancy alone.”
The people in the ward filed out.
Only Mick and Nancy were left.
Mick stared at Nancy. “Why did you say the child isn’t mine?”
“Because… the child really isn’t yours,” Nancy said.
“The child is 25 weeks old now. Counting the days, it should be the time we had sex!” Mick said.
“Mr. Reed shouldn’t think that one time is enough to get pregnant, and besides, you saw me take birth control pills with your own eyes,” Nancy said.
In any case, she couldn’t let Mick think that the child was his!
She wants to keep this child, her only family.
“If it’s not mine, then whose is it?” Mick asked.
“You don’t need to know that. Mr. Reed, have you forgotten that we agreed to be strangers with no pter relationship in the future?” Nancy tried to remain calm.
Her words made Mick’s heart skip a beat.
“Are you blaming me for how I treated you back then? I can apologize, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have…”
Mick tried to say.
“No!” Nancy interrupted Mick.
His humble attitude towards her at this moment made her uncomfortable.
“I’m not blaming you. I’m the one who should apologize to you. You were kind to me back then. I just want to say…” She took a deep breath. “The child is not yours, it has nothing to do with you.”
“Then who is the child’s father? Tell me!” Mick said. He didn’t believe there was another man when they were together.
Besides, he knew that when they had sex, it was her first time.
“Just a stranger, I don’t know him. After we separated, I had a relationship with that person because of an accident, and that’s how I got pregnant.” She made up a story.
Making up a non-existent person would make it impossible to prove otherwise.
“Anyway this child is mine, and I will raise him/her well. The child only has a relationship with me!”
Nancy said.
Mick stared at Nancy and suddenly said, “If you want to know if the child is mine, it’s easy to do a DNA
test after the child is born.”
His tone sounded like he was sure the child was his.
“You–” Nancy stared at Mick, momentarily speechless.
If they really did a DNA test, then everyone would know who the child’s biological father is.
“This is my child, you have no right to do this!” she protested, feeling guilty.
But this only proved who the child belonged to!
My Gorgeous Wile is
“Nancy, I know I’ve done some wrong things, and it may be difficult for you to forgive me, but…I beg you, don’t cut ties with me like this,” Mick knelt down in front of her hospital bed and pleaded.
His voice was low and filled with indescribable pain.
At this moment, Nancy suddenly felt a sense of absurdity, as if their roles had been reversed.
Before, she had begged him for forgiveness, but now, he was begging her.
“Is it because you think I jumped off the cliff and saved Jasper that you’re doing this?” Nancy whispered, looking at him. “Mick, you don’t have to do this. Regardless of whether I jumped or not, we would have both fallen off the cliff in the end. The only difference is whether I did it voluntarily or not.”
His face suddenly changed. “Do you really think I wouldn’t have chosen you?”
She smiled bitterly. “In that situation, anyone would have chosen Jasper. Even Irene had already chosen Jasper. Only when Jasper was taken hostage did she have a chance of safety. If Jasper fell into the sea, Irene would have had no cards left to play.”
Because she was just an insignificant little person, she had seen this clearly from the beginning.
“So you jumped into the sea by yourself? Have you ever thought about what this means for me…?”
“I did it for the Reed family, for you,” Nancy said. If Mick were to make the choice, he would inevitably feel guilty and self-blame towards her.
She had tasted this feeling before and didn’t want him to experience it too.
“Do you think this is good?” Mick said harshly. “Is this what you call repayment? I never needed you to repay me in this way!”
Nancy’s eyes dimmed. Even if she wanted to repay Mick with her life, it was unnecessary for him.
It was all just her own wishful thinking.
“I’m sorry, I was being presumptuous,” she said softly.
A sense of inexplicable annoyance enveloped him. “Damn it, I don’t want you to apologize. I just don’t want to see you not valuing your life, Nancy, your life is important! Please don’t make me worry and be afraid again, okay?”
Even during this time, he would often dream of her resolutely jumping down at midnight.
Then he would wake up in a cold sweat, unable to tell if it was sweat or tears on his face!
Nancy looked at Mick in surprise. “I…I don’t understand what you mean.”
She understood every word, but the combination of words made her feel like she didn’t understand.
It couldn’t be what she thought it was. Maybe it was just Mick’s gratitude for her pulling frene and saving
Jasper.
Or maybe it was because he felt guilty for her injury?
Or maybe there was another meaning?
“Don’t understand? Then let me make it clearer,” he raised his hand and gently held hers. “Nancy, I love you.
I don’t need you to repay me, I just want you to be safe and live well! Do you understand?”
She was completely stunned.
Falling in love… Mick fell in love with her?!
How is that possible?!
He used to despise her so much!
“I don’t understand, how could you fall in love with me?” Nancy asked. “Is it because I helped Jasper and you mistook gratitude for love?”
“Nancy, I’m not a child. I know the difference between gratitude and love,” Mick replied.
“Then I don’t understand even more. You used to hate me, didn’t you? You even hated me so much that you didn’t want to see me!” Nancy said.
“Yes, I did hate you,” Mick murmured. “Because I had truly invested my feelings in a woman for the first time, only to be used. That’s why I hated you and didn’t want to see you. Every time I saw you, the feelings in my body kept reminding me of how much I missed you.”
Mick paused for a moment before continuing. “But at that time, I couldn’t accept it. I couldn’t accept that
I still had feelings for you, so I kept denying it. But when you jumped off the cliff, I was overwhelmed by fear.
My mind went blank, and my first reaction was to jump after you and save you!”
If it weren’t for the Reed family’s bodyguard catching him, he might have really jumped!
Nancy listened to Mick’s confession in a daze, unable to react.
