Daniel and Lawrence don’t even know each other, and he probably doesn’t even know Lawrence exists!” Jasper exclaimed loudly, his face filled with a painful contradiction.
When she learned that Daniel’s testimony mentioned Lawrence, the feeling was like being heavily cut by a sharp blade, it was extremely painful.
Lawrence? How could it be Lawrence?!
How could Lawrence be involved with Daniel? Even if Lawrence hated the Reed family, hated her, but the revenge she imagined did not include the death of her family!
Daniel’s actions almost caused Mason and Veronica to lose their lives.
She couldn’t believe that Lawrence was the mastermind behind all this!
But if it wasn’t Lawrence, why did Daniel mention him in his testimony?
Her mind was filled with all kinds of contradictions, constantly debating.
“I know you don’t want it to be Lawrence. The police will eventually find out the truth. If it’s not
Lawrence, he won’t be falsely accused, and Daniel won’t get a reduced sentence because of it,”
William said.
“But what if it is Lawrence?!” Jasper’s voice trembled as her hands clenched tightly at her side. The mere possibility made her feel physically ill.
“If it is him, then I will help you in the way you want,” William replied.
Jasper’s eyes widened suddenly. “What…do you mean?”
“I mean, if it really is him, and you want him to go to jail, we don’t have to do anything. We can just wait for the legal system to take its course. After all, your parents won’t let the person who almost killed Mason get away, even if it’s
Lawrence.”
William paused for a moment. “But if you don’t want him to go to jail, then I will find a way to clear his name.”
“You…” Jasper looked shocked.
William’s simple statement of “finding a way to clear his name” would likely involve a lot of resources and connections, and might even lead to him committing a crime himself!
“What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?” William reached out to touch Jasper’s face.
“You…don’t have to do something like this for Lawrence,” Jasper murmured.
“It’s not for him. I just don’t want you to regret anything related to Lawrence in the future,” William said.
“If he really did commit a crime, and you didn’t help him, you might feel guilty and regretful. That’s the last thing I want to see.”
“But even so, I don’t want you to commit a crime for Lawrence’s sake,” Jasper said. “If we let a criminal go free by making an innocent person commit a crime, what’s the point? We’ll just end up with another criminal.”
“But…” William began.
Jasper interrupted him.
“Like you said, if Lawrence really did commit the crime and ends up in jail, I’ll feel guilty and regretful.
But if you commit a crime to protect him, won’t I feel guilty and miserable too?”
William pursed his thin lips, seeming unsure of what to say.
Jasper gave a bitter smile. “Now, I just hope that Daniel was talking nonsense.”
Earlier at the hospital, she had pretended everything was fine in front of Mason and Veronica. But now, all her disguises had been stripped away, leaving only bitterness and unease.
“Shall I take you back to the Reed family first? You need to rest. You haven’t been sleeping well lately, and your dark circles have gotten worse,” William suggested.
“No need. I want to go back to school first,” Jasper said. Today was the weekend, and there were no classes. But she knew that Lawrence would be in the chemistry lab during this time. There were some things she needed to ask him face–to–face.
“Then let me accompany you back to school,” William said.
“I can go by myself. You’ve been with me all these days, and you must be tired. You should go back and rest,” Jasper said, raising her hand to hail a taxi.
But in the next moment, William grabbed her hand. “Are you going to find Lawrence?” he asked.
Jasper nodded lightly.
“That’s too dangerous!” William exclaimed. “If Lawrence wasn’t involved in Daniel’s plan, then it’s fine. But if he was, then he’s a dangerous person now. He may hate the Reed family more than you think. If you go to him alone, no one can guarantee that he won’t harm you!”
“I’m just going to the school to find him. Even if he really wants to harm me, he won’t do it so obviously at school,” Jasper said. “Besides, if he really wanted me dead, he had many opportunities before, but he didn’t take them.”
So in Jasper’s view, if Lawrence really wanted to retaliate against her, he wouldn’t directly harm her.
Instead, he would choose to hurt someone she cared about to achieve his goal of revenge.
“Just because he didn’t do it before doesn’t mean he won’t do it in the future,” William said gravely.
“Anyway, if you really want to find him, I have to accompany you.”
The two of them faced off.
Normally, when William and Jasper have a disagreement, William is always the one who backs down.
But today, William had no intention of backing down.
After a while, Jasper finally said, “Will you come with me back to school? When I find Lawrence, I want to talk to him alone.
I’m afraid he won’t say certain things if you’re standing next to me.”
“Okay.” This time, William agreed.
William drove and the two of them headed towards the school.
On the way, he caught a glimpse of Jasper from the corner of his eye. Jasper was looking down, absentmindedly picking at her fingernails.
This habit usually only appeared when she was upset.
Even though they were now boyfriend and girlfriend and closer than before, Lawrence was still a taboo topic that
Jasper didn’t want anyone to touch.
William couldn’t intervene in the matter between Jasper and
Lawrence.
What would happen between Jasper and Lawrence this time?
How much longer will Lawrence continue to hurt Jasper?
If Lawrence’s revenge doesn’t stop here, William will have to find a way to prevent him from doing anything else.
But if he does decide to take action against Lawrence, he must keep it a secret from Jasper and not let her find out.
Otherwise, given how much she values Lawrence, she may not forgive him.
At this point, William felt the suffocating feeling in his chest becoming stronger.
The car arrived at the school and William and Jasper got out together.
Jasper checked the time and estimated that Lawrence should still be in the school laboratory, so he said to William, “Let’s go to the laboratory.”
“Okay,” William replied.
As they arrived at the laboratory door, they saw Lawrence coming out of the room.
The three of them looked at each other, each with their own thoughts.
Finally, Lawrence’s voice broke the silence, “Are you two here to see me?”
“Yes, I have something to ask you,” Jasper said.
“Ask me something?” Lawrence raised an eyebrow. “What about Mr. Barlow? Does he also want to ask me something?”
“No, he’s just accompanying me,” Jasper said.
“Well then, shall we go inside the laboratory to talk? There’s no one inside now, and I don’t want unrelated people to hear our conversation,” Lawrence said.
“Okay,” Jasper agreed.
“Wait a minute!” William interrupted. “Let’s go somewhere else. There’s no need to talk in the laboratory. We can find a place in the school where there’s no one around. I’ll stand far away and just watch, I won’t be able to hear what you’re saying.”
Lawrence chuckled, “What’s the matter, Mr. Barlow? Are you afraid I’ll do something bad to Jasper in the laboratory? Also, I’m not interested in being watched by others while I’m talking to someone. If you don’t want to go to the laboratory, then we don’t have to talk.”
As Lawrence spoke, he gestured to leave.
Jasper stopped Lawrence and said, “I can go into the lab!”
Then she turned to William and said, “Wait for me outside for a while.”
“But…” William’s face was filled with worry.
“It’s okay, what could happen here?” Jasper said, following Lawrence towards the lab.
But before entering the lab, they needed to put on lab coats.
Lawrence handed Jasper a lab coat and said, “Put this on.”
Jasper took the lab coat and put it on. She watched as Lawrence walked up to the glass door of the lab and unlocked it with his fingerprint.
The two of them entered the lab and the glass sliding door closed automatically.
This was Jasper’s first time in the school’s chemistry lab. It was similar to the lab Lawrence had taken her to outside of school, with all the bottles and containers that she couldn’t understand.
t
Of course, she knew that many of these things were dangerous, so she tried to stay away from them and definitely didn’t touch them.
“So, what do you want to talk to me about? Or do you have any questions for me?” Lawrence stopped walking and turned to Jasper.
Jasper looked at Lawrence’s handsome face and remembered what he looked like when he was a child.
She had thought of what she wanted to ask him on the way there, but now that she was face to face with him, she hesitated.
If he really was the manipulator that Daniel had mentioned, what should she do?
