She was startled. “Mason, you…”

But before she could finish her sentence, his kiss invaded her mouth, deepening the kiss.

“Mmm…” She moaned, her hands instinctively pushing against his chest, but not pushing him away. She continued to passively accept the kiss.

She didn’t know how long it had been, but when the kiss finally ended, Veronica was panting, her face already red, and she didn’t even dare to look at Mason.

“Why didn’t you push me away?” he suddenly asked.

She was stunned and didn’t react for a moment.

“This isn’t the first time I’ve kissed you. I’ve kissed you before, but back then, you would push me away.

Why not now?” he asked.

She adjusted her breathing, her fingers unconsciously pulling on her own clothes. After hesitating for a moment, she looked up at him. “Because we’re supposed to be trying, right?

So…so…”

She pursed her red lips. “Mason, I won’t push you away again!”

He stared at her. “Some promises shouldn’t be made too early, because you don’t even know if you can keep them.”

“I can definitely do it!” she said firmly, her dark eyes shining with determination. “I will definitely be able to do it!”

He looked at her eyes in surprise, and his calm heart began to stir because of her words.

He…was really easily influenced by her!

At this moment, he even wanted to believe her words, to believe that she would never push him away in the future, to believe in her promise!

“Well, Veronica, don’t forget what you said today. If you can’t do it in the future, I won’t let you off the hook!” His voice rang out calmly.

Her eyes were misty, and tears quickly filled her eyes.

Veronica…he called her Veronica again!

Once, she could hear this name every day and night. When the day came that she couldn’t hear it from this person’s mouth anymore, she realized how precious it was.

“Okay, if there really is such a day, you don’t have to let me off the hook.” She choked out, tears streaming down her face!

She and him, they really started like this.

For Veronica, it was like a dream come true.

In the following days, Mason would occasionally come to her place to rest for a while. Sometimes, he would take a nap on her bed or sofa. Sometimes, they would sit together in the living room and watch

TV dramas. On weekends, he would stay with her in this old house for a whole day. She would cook, and he would take the initiative to wash the dishes and tidy up after the meal.

All of this made her feel like she had really gone back to the past.

The only difference now is that they hold hands and hug more often, and her state of mind is also different from before.

Where will she and him end up? She doesn’t know, the current situation is more like taking it one step at a time.

But one thing she is clear about is that she doesn’t want to be alone. She wants to hold onto his company, even if it’s just a passing fancy, even if it’s short-lived.

Perhaps this is the last time she will have a good time with him. Maybe after this period of time, they will continue to be like two intersecting lines, gradually moving away from each other, never touching again.

But… she still wants to seize this opportunity.

Coming back from the agency, Veronica is exhausted.

It’s already late, past 10 pm. Being a general assistant doesn’t pay much, but it’s tiring. It’s not easy for her to find such a part-time job while still studying.

As long as she can get through this difficult time, it will be better after she graduates from college. At that time, she will have more time to spend with Mason.

But as soon as this thought flashed through her mind, she immediately laughed at herself.

She still has more than a year before she graduates from college. By then, she and Mason may have already ended this “trial” period.

Even if she really has more time then, she will still be alone.

Walking to the door, she enters the password and opens it, only to be greeted by a brightly lit room.

She is surprised, did he come?!

Sure enough, she soon sees a familiar figure lying on the sofa, taking a nap.

Veronica unconsciously tiptoes to the sofa, gently closes the door, and looks at the man who is resting with his head on a pillow and his eyes closed.

When he’s asleep, he loses that cold indifference and gains a bit of youthful innocence.

He… is actually two years younger than her! Veronica thought to herself. Although he’s tall and his pretty face often appears expressionless, making him seem more mature than his actual age of 18, he’s still just a teenage boy at the end of the day.

Seeing that he wasn’t covered with anything, she decided to get a thin blanket to cover him. But just as she was about to turn around, a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.

She was startled, and the next moment, she met his deep eyes that were as calm as an ancient well.

“You… are you awake?” She was stunned. “Did I wake you up?”

“I have a light sleep.” He said that he had already woken up when she entered the room.

“When did you come?” She asked.

“In the evening.” He replied.

Evening? She was surprised. That meant he had been here for several hours already. “Did you have dinner when you arrived?”

“Not yet.” He said.

“Then let me quickly make you something to eat. What do you want to eat?” She hurriedly asked, after all, it was already 10

o’clock.

“Anything is fine.” He said.

She couldn’t help but think that he was still the same as before, always indifferent to food. It seemed like no matter what kind of food was given to him, whether it was simple or exquisite, he would eat it all the same. It was even difficult to know what he liked to eat.

“Then let me prepare something for you.” She said, her gaze falling on the hand that he was still holding onto.

However, he didn’t seem to want to let go of her hand, so she had to remind him, “Could you please loosen your grip a bit?”

He finally let go of her hand, and she walked over to the fridge, took out a bag of frozen food, and started cooking in the kitchen.

After all, frozen food was the quickest option at the moment.

Mason sat on the sofa, watching the busy figure in the kitchen, then lowered his head and looked at his right hand.

That empty feeling swept over him again, and every time he touched her, that feeling became even stronger. It was like something was slipping away from his hand, and the harder he tried to hold on, the more he lost it.

Was this feeling caused by her?

Would this feeling disappear after they “tried”?

After Veronica had been busy in the kitchen for more than ten minutes, a bowl of frozen dumplings was finally ready.

She carried the dumplings to the table and placed the bowl and spoon in front of him. “Um…the dumplings are faster to cook.”

“Oh.” He responded lightly, lowered his head, and started eating.

She sat beside him, watching him eat the dumplings with his head down, feeling that this moment of peace and tranquility was so beautiful.

This scene was like a dream to her.

Because of his lowered head, a few strands of his hair playfully fell over his forehead, partially blocking his vision.

Her hand gently lifted and flicked one of the strands away.

His body suddenly stiffened, his hand stopped moving, and his head lifted slightly, turning towards her.

His dark eyes stared at her.

Veronica suddenly realized what she had done and felt a bit flustered. “Um… your bangs were blocking your vision, so I’m sorry I did that without asking!”

As she spoke, she tried to retract her hand, but he held onto her wrist again. “Why apologize?” he asked.

“Huh?” She blinked, confused. “I… I did something without your permission, so I should apologize.”

Her hand was still in the same position as before, and she felt even more embarrassed now. Her voice stuttered as she spoke.

“Our relationship is different now than it was before. You don’t need to apologize for just moving my bangs,” he said, taking her hand and using her fingers to gently push aside the hair on his forehead. “Our relationship has changed, hasn’t it?”

“What kind of relationship do we have now?” she couldn’t help but ask.

Even though they had agreed to “try things out,” she wasn’t sure what that meant for their relationship.

“What kind of relationship do you want?” Mason asked in return.

Veronica hesitated. Were they still just brother and sister? She had hoped they could maintain that kind of relationship as they grew older, but it seemed impossible now.

“We’re… trying to see if we can have a romantic relationship, but it’s not really dating, is it?” she said, feeling like they were testing the waters before committing to anything.

It was like some people who tried living together before getting married, just to make sure they were compatible.

“Testing the waters?” Mason’s gaze flickered over her face, as if he was deep in thought. After a moment, he said, “That’s a good way to put it. We’re testing the waters. What did you do in your past relationships?”

Veronica’s face turned red and white as she struggled to come up with an answer. She had only dated Daniel once, and that had caused a rift between her and Mason.

She didn’t know what to say.

For her, that was also a past she didn’t want to recall. And now, he was asking her what they would do if they were in a relationship? Was he asking her what she and Daniel did when they were together?

“What’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything?” He asked again, as her silence had gone on for too long.

“It’s…nothing. Just normal things that people do when they’re dating,” she replied vaguely.

But he kept pressing, “What kind of normal things?”

“Just…like that,” she ran out of words.
