At this moment, Mason thought to himself.

Lionel was released on bail from the detention center, and

Archer and Rosalind naturally had a relieved expression!

However, Lionel was clearly quite shaken by his detention. He seemed nervous and fearful, and kept asking his parents if he would go to jail.

“You won’t go to jail! You were just joking around with your sister and those kidnappers took advantage of you. The Reed family has a good relationship with us and they will definitely help you. You won’t go to jail!”

“The Reed family? Oh, right! Mason and my sister are close, he will definitely help me!” Lionel stammered, repeating “Mason will help me, he will definitely help me!” over and over again.

The Barlow couple looked at each other with concern for their son.

“Lionel, are you okay?” Rosalind asked anxiously, looking at her son.

“I…I’m fine. With Mason here, how could anything happen to me? I won’t have any problems, I won’t!” Lionel stuttered, but his body was curling up more and more into a ball!

On the second day after Lionel was released on bail, the

Barlow couple went to visit the Reed family to see Mason.

And as soon as they saw Mason, they quickly said, “Mason, could you go back to the Barlow family and see Lionel? He hasn’t been doing well since he came back home, and today he’s been insisting on seeing you.”

“See me?” Mason frowned.

“Yes…he’s been insisting on seeing you. Mason, Lionel is Veronica’s brother and you’ve known him for so many years. He was just used by someone and made a mistake. Can’t you just go see him?”

Rosalind pleaded.

At this point, Rosalind was trying to use their old relationship to appeal to Mason’s empathy. If Mason agreed to see Lionel, it would mean that the Reed family was willing to help him and not let him go to jail easily!

But Mason didn’t agree, making Rosalind even more anxious. Archer, who was standing nearby, quickly turned to his daughter and said, “Veronica, can you help persuade Mason? Just go see your brother. Lionel’s mental state is not good right now, and we don’t know what happened to him in detention. He knows he did wrong. When he came back yesterday, he didn’t eat anything and just locked himself in his room. Your auntie Rosalind and I have been trying to get closer to him, but it’s been difficult!”

Veronica bit her lip slightly upon hearing this, but ultimately turned to Mason and said, “Why don’t you just go see Lionel and find out what’s going on with him?”

Veronica bit her lip slightly and finally said to Mason, “Why don’t you go and see what’s going on with

Lionel?”

Mason looked at Veronica and said, “Even if he really has something going on, it’s his own fault. He almost killed

Veronica. Being able to get bail is already lucky for him!”

“But…” Veronica looked hesitant. She also had resentment towards her brother in her heart. But she also knew that he was being used.

So Veronica turned to her father and stepmother and said, “I’ll go back and see Lionel first.”

Although Archer and Rosalind were unwilling, it was better to have someone go and check on Lionel than no one at all.

“That’s fine, let’s go,” said Archer.

However, as Veronica took only two steps, Mason suddenly grabbed her wrist. “Since you’re going,

Veronica, I’m going too.”

Veronica was taken aback. “But aren’t you…”

“I’m worried,” he said, as if that one sentence explained everything.

Mason’s willingness to accompany Veronica to the Barlow family was exactly what Archer and Rosalind had hoped for.

So the group arrived at the Barlow family and Rosalind opened the door to Lionel’s room. She said to

Lionel, who was huddled in the corner of the room, “Lionel, come and see who’s here to visit you. Your sister and Mason have come to see you!”

The figure huddled in the corner slowly lifted its head and looked towards the group that had just entered.

Veronica was also stunned at the sight of Lionel. He looked completely different from before. His hair was messy, his eyes were lifeless, and there were deep dark circles under his eyes. He looked like he was wearing a “weak makeup” that was often seen online. His cheeks were even sunken, and he looked like he had lost weight.

It had only been a little over a week since he was detained, but he had changed so much.

After Lionel lifted his head, his gaze was fixed on Mason. Suddenly, he seemed to go crazy and rushed towards Mason, rolling and crawling on the ground. “Mason, I have something to tell you! I’ve been waiting for you. I have so much to say to you!”

After speaking, Lionel turned to the people next to him and said, “All of you, get out! I only want to talk to Mason!”

Lionel was very emotional and not in a good state at the moment.

Archer and Rosalind quickly tried to comply with their son’s request and left Mason alone with Lionel in the room.

However, Veronica was a bit worried, as Lionel’s emotions were not stable at the moment.

Seeing her concern, Mason felt a sense of satisfaction. Veronica was worried about him.

As long as she cares about him, he will be extremely happy and willing to do anything for her.

“Veronica, you go out first. I’ll stay in the room,” Mason said. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Upon hearing this, Veronica said, “Well…then you have to be careful.”

Rosalind seemed a bit dissatisfied and said, “Do you still think

Lionel can hurt…”

“Okay, just go out first,” Archer glared at his wife and quickly pulled her out of the room. Veronica followed shortly after.

In the room, only Lionel and Mason were left.

Lionel quickly closed the door in a hurry.

Seeing this, Rosalind’s eyes flickered and she quietly approached the door, pressing her ear against it to eavesdrop.

Archer frowned and quickly tried to pull his wife away, whispering, “What are you doing?”

“Listen, aren’t you curious why Lionel insists on meeting Mason alone?” Rosalind asked.

“What’s there to be curious about? He just wants Mason to help him avoid going to jail, right?” Archer replied.

“But there’s no need to meet alone for that. I’m telling you, there must be something else!” Rosalind said, looking like she wanted to eavesdrop.

Archer looked embarrassed, and Veronica also became suspicious.

Indeed, if Lionel only wanted Mason’s help to avoid jail, there was no need to meet alone. Could there really be something unknown happening between them?

At this moment, inside the room, Lionel pleaded with Mason, “Mason, you have to save me, you have to! I only kidnapped my sister because of you! If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have ended up like this!”

“For me?” Mason looked at Lionel coldly.

“Yes, for you! You had a fight with my sister, and I…I thought things couldn’t go on like this. So I kidnapped her and sent you a message, asking for your cooperation. You were the first one to arrive at the scene afterwards, and now you’ve made up with my sister. You can’t just abandon me now! You have to save me!” Lionel was getting emotional.

Mason’s face grew darker and darker. This kidnapping was all because of this?

Also, he did arrive at the scene first, but he never saw the message Lionel mentioned. In fact, after he and Veronica had a fight, Lionel called him a few times, but he found it annoying and eventually blocked Lionel’s number.

In other words, he couldn’t have received any text messages from the other person.

“I haven’t received any text messages from you,” Mason said coldly.

However, for Lionel at this moment, Mason’s words were undoubtedly a way of disavowing their past relationship.

Lionel’s face immediately changed. “Mason, how could you do this? You used me and now that you don’t need me anymore, you’re planning to kick me aside? I kidnapped my sister for you, and now that you and my sister have made up, you’re just going to ignore me?!”

Lionel raised his fist, wanting to punch Mason, but Mason dodged and Lionel ended up crashing into a nearby shelf. This caused a loud commotion as items fell to the ground.

Suddenly, the room’s door was pushed open and Rosalind rushed in. She saw her son lying on the ground, pinned down by a pile of debris, and quickly ran over to help him up. She nervously asked,

“Are you okay? Does it hurt? Is it serious?”

However, Lionel seemed to ignore her and struggled to rush towards Mason again. “Mason, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. You benefited from kidnapping my sister, but I’m the one who has to bear the blame. It’s all because of you! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have kidnapped my sister! And…you knew why I did it, so why didn’t you go to the police station to help me explain?”

Rosalind also spoke up anxiously, “Yes, Mason, Lionel did all of this because of you! You can’t let him go to jail! If the judge finds out that you were involved in the kidnapping case, you won’t be able to escape either…”

Upon hearing this, Archer’s face changed and he quickly stopped his wife. “Enough, you’re going too far!”

Archer, who was standing aside, immediately changed his expression and hurriedly stopped his wife,

“Enough, you’re getting more and more outrageous!”

Rosalind also realized that she had said the wrong thing and immediately stuttered, afraid to speak again.

But Mason seemed to have not paid attention to what they said at all. At this moment, his gaze was just staring blankly at

Veronica, who was standing by the door.

He knew that she had also heard these words, so what would she think?

At this moment, his heart was beating rapidly with anxiety. Her silence suddenly made him feel afraid.

Does this mean that she also believes in the kidnapping and that it’s related to him? Does he know about it?

No way!

She must believe him! At this moment, he said to himself in his heart.

“Veronica…” He walked step by step to her, “Did you hear everything?”

Veronica stared at the person in front of her for a while before saying with some difficulty, “Yes, I heard it.”

“Do you believe me?” he asked.

“Believe you about what?” she asked in return.

“Before you believe me, I want you to know that I had no idea about this kidnapping and I was never involved,” he said.

Veronica suddenly felt a twinge in her nose. She really wanted to believe him, but Lionel’s words from earlier kept replaying in her mind, causing too many doubts and suspicions.

“Are you really not involved? Then tell me, why were you the first one to find the warehouse where the kidnappers were hiding? You said you got a lead, but what lead was it? Was it the text message Lionel sent you?” she asked.

“No, I never received any text messages. I had blocked his number, so it’s impossible for me to receive any messages…” He hurriedly tried to explain.

“Then why did he mention you?” She asked.
