Mason has been treating me well lately. It’s much better than when we were kids, so I’m actually quite satisfied.””
As they talked, Jasper noticed the necklace hanging around Veronica’s neck. “Hey, isn’t that the necklace you used to attack the kidnapper back then?” he asked.
Veronica nodded. “Yeah, Mason took it back and cleaned it before giving it back to me. It really came in handy back then,” she said, gently touching the necklace.
Seeing Veronica’s expression, Jasper suddenly leaned in and whispered, “Veronica, do you have a little crush on my brother
Mason?”
Jasper leaned in and whispered, “Veronica, do you have any feelings for my friend Mason?” as he looked at Veronica’s expression.
“Hmm?” Veronica paused, confused.
Jasper said hurriedly, “When I say ‘like’, I don’t mean the kind of liking you have for siblings. I mean the kind of liking you have for a boyfriend. You don’t have a boyfriend now, do you? So…would you consider me, Mason?”
Although Jasper hasn’t developed her own emotions yet, it doesn’t mean she can’t perceive the emotions of others.
Moreover, there are quite a few classmates in her own class who are in relationships, so she can understand Mason’s feelings to some extent. Besides, if it weren’t for Veronica’s guidance, she couldn’t even imagine who Mason would date in the future.
Veronica was clearly caught off guard by Jasper’s question. Her hand almost instinctively tightened around the pendant on her neck. “I…I feel about him…”
What is it? Is it just sibling affection?
Is it just treating Mason like family?!
But why is it so difficult to say such a simple thing right now?
“What are you guys talking about?” A voice suddenly sounded, and the two looked up to see William asking the question, with Mason standing beside him.
“Nothing, really!” Veronica quickly replied, feeling a bit relieved that they showed up and saved her from answering that question.
Mason noticed Veronica holding onto the pendant of her necklace and his eyes flickered slightly.
“Veronica, it’s time to change your medicine.”
“Okay!” Veronica stood up. “I’ll go change it now.” After speaking, she hurriedly walked up the stairs.
Her wounds needed to be changed every day, and a nurse hired by the Reed family helped her with it.
Mason followed her up the stairs, while Jasper and William remained in the lobby downstairs.
Jasper watched the two figures disappear and felt a pang of sympathy for his own Mason.
“What’s with that look on your face?” William asked.
“I was just thinking that Veronica probably doesn’t like my Mason as much as he likes her,” she muttered.
“Why would you think that?” he asked.
“I just asked Veronica if she had any feelings for me, Mason, not the kind of sibling love, but Veronica hesitated and didn’t answer. You guys came and she breathed a sigh of relief,” Jasper said.
He had actually been paying attention to Veronica’s expression earlier. “Do you think feelings can’t change? Once you’ve decided someone is your little brother, is it impossible to change that to a boyfriend?”
“What about you? Would you be willing to change?” William asked, not answering directly.
“Me?” Jasper blinked and didn’t react at first.
“Yes, you. Would you be willing to change? Would you change the identity you’ve assigned to the other person to a different one? Or would you rather never change and avoid any kind of change?” he asked, his black eyes staring intently at her.
“I…I don’t understand what you mean by that?” Jasper said hesitantly. “I’m a bit confused by what you’re saying. Are you asking if I, as Veronica, would be willing to change my feelings and have Mason as my boyfriend? But I’m not Veronica, so this hypothetical situation doesn’t make any sense.”
Her innocent and naive expression left William feeling a bit downcast. “Yes, it doesn’t make any sense,”
he replied. What was he hoping for?
Was he hoping that she would understand the meaning behind his words?
He knew that she only saw him as an important friend for now. She didn’t have a clear understanding of her own feelings yet.
“William, did I say something wrong?” Jasper suddenly asked.
“Why do you ask?” he said.
“Because you look like you’re very sad,” she said.
He was taken aback. Did he really look that sad right now?
She lifted her hand and lightly traced his eye corner with her fingertips. “Like you’re about to cry.”
His hand suddenly grabbed her fingers, “If I really want to cry because I can’t get something, what would you do?”
“Cry because you can’t get something?” She laughed, “Are you a child? Besides, when you were little, I never saw you cry because you couldn’t get something!”
“Growing up, some things will always change,” he said.
“That’s true,” she thought for a moment, “As long as what you want is not impossible or goes against morals, I will definitely help you get it, so you won’t cry!”
“Really?” He looked at her with a gaze that seemed to be imbued with deep meaning, “Then in the future, if I really want that thing, please help me!”
She was a bit embarrassed by his gaze, and her face inexplicably turned red.
The way he was staring at her just now was like the way the male lead in movies and TV shows looks at the female lead, and it made her increasingly uncomfortable.
Subconsciously, she suddenly lifted the other hand that he hadn’t caught and used it to cover his eyes directly.
“What’s wrong?” He stood still, letting her hand cover his eyes.
“Don’t look at me with that kind of gaze like just now!” She said, that kind of gaze would make her feel a strange feeling that she couldn’t even explain to herself.
His body seemed to stiffen slightly, and after a moment, he slowly said, “Okay!”
She finally removed her hand from his face, and he looked at her with eyes that had indeed returned to their usual state.
She breathed a sigh of relief and asked, “By the way, what exactly is that thing you want?”
His eyelashes trembled slightly, and with half-lowered eyes, he said, “You’ll know in the future.”
“Okay then, if you really can’t get it, you have to tell me! I don’t want to see you cry!” she said in a carefree manner.
“Okay then, if you really can’t get it, make sure to let me know!
I don’t want to see you cry!” She said in a carefree manner.
“Okay, I will definitely say it!” he said.
What he wants is her love!
If she’s truly willing to give herself to him, he’ll cherish every moment of his remaining life with her.
After the nurse finished changing Veronica’s medication and left the room, Mason walked in.
He didn’t say anything, just looked at her quietly.
“What’s wrong? You’re not saying anything?” she asked curiously.
He pursed his lips and after a while, he said, “Lionel can be released on bail tomorrow.”
“Then my dad and the others should be able to breathe a sigh of relief,” Veronica said.
“But for now, it’s only limited to bail. As for whether or not he will be convicted, we’ll have to wait for the court’s verdict,” said
Mason.
“Will he… go to jail? Or maybe a juvenile detention center?”
she asked. After all, she had been with Lionel for so many years and knew that her younger brother wasn’t really a bad person by nature. He had just been spoiled by his stepmother and spent all his time with bad friends, neglecting his studies and pretending to be an adult in society.
“If Veronica wants to protect him, then he won’t,” said Mason.
Veronica hesitated for a moment before finally uttering two words from her mouth, “Save him!”
“So, is Veronica willing to forgive him for everything he did to you?” Mason asked abruptly.
“Huh?” She was taken aback, understanding that he was referring to Lionel’s involvement in the kidnapping. Although he wasn’t the mastermind, he played a certain role in it. “He’s my brother, and I hope he can learn a lesson from this.”
“What about me?” he retorted.
“You?” She was surprised.
“If I did something wrong, would you be willing to forgive me,
Veronica?” he asked.
“But you haven’t done anything,” she said, puzzled.
“But I just want a guarantee, in case I make a mistake in the future and Veronica won’t forgive me,”
Mason said, his beautiful black eyes showing a hint of hesitation and longing.
Veronica felt her heart soften and impulsively wanted to agree to all his requests. “I…I will forgive you, you can rest assured.”
At his words, a smile curved on his lips. “Really?”
“Of course, you’re my little brother. Even if you make a mistake, I will forgive you,” she said, almost instinctively emphasizing the words “little brother”.
It’s like she’s speaking to him, but also to herself.
Her younger brother’s eyes, once bright and clear, suddenly dimmed. “I thought Veronica would say that because I’m your closest family member.”
“Of course…you’re also my closest family member!” She said awkwardly, fidgeting with the pendant hanging from her neck.
His expression froze. “Veronica, then if I…”
But he stopped mid-sentence.
“What?” She looked at him with confusion.
“Not much,” he ultimately didn’t continue speaking. If he made a promise just to get her forgiveness, would it seem too forced?
Maybe it’s better to wait a few more days and choose a suitable opportunity to say it.
