“Also, I think we’d better talk about the possibility of me getting pregnant!” she said.
“Okay, go ahead,” he said as he asked the others in the living room to leave.
“Will you insist that I have the baby if I get pregnant?” she asked, looking at him.
“If you’re pregnant, I don’t want to lose the baby,” he said. He had never longed for children even though his parents had always wanted grandchildren, even if it was out of wedlock.
However, such ideas had never occurred to him.
Now, he wanted to have the baby because they would be… his baby with Valda!
“Even if I don’t want the baby, are you still going to stop me from having an abortion?” she asked.
He was silent as if in acquiescence.
“Will you do something illegal? For example, lock me up in the mansion or something like that?” He continued staying silent.
She pressed her lips together and added, “If I give birth to the baby, canl keep the baby with me? I can support the baby with my income. Of course, you and your family can meet the child, but custody is mine.”
“We can get mamed and be a happy family for our children,” he said.
“What if I don’t want to get married?” she asked.
“You’ll marry me. You will!” Brian said. He was speaking to her but also to himself as if he was giving himself some courage and faith.
She sighed and felt the urge to cry as she said, “Brian, do I even have a choice?”
He froze. Tears filled Valda Theller’s eyes at some point, making his heart ache.
“Assuming we’re going to have a child together, you’ll be making the decisions for me every step of the way. I won’t even get a chance to make a decision for myself. If that’s how you care about me, I’d rather not have you care about me.” Such care made her feel like a puppet being manipulated by his strings.
“I just want to be with you,” Brian said hoarsely.
“Do you really want to be with me? Or is it because my presence has made Grace think you’ve gotten over her and started a new relationship? In this case, you’ve given her the peace of mind she wants.”
Valda Theller laughed at herself, “Come to think of it, it was a coincidence that you chose me as your girlfriend in the first place. In other words, it could have been someone else even if it wasn’t me. I’m not that irreplaceable.” Brian blurted out, “No, it’s not like that! Not everyone else can do it. When I was looking at you and you were smiling at me while drawing me, I had the impulse to ask you if you wanted to date me.”
Valda Theller looked blankly at Brian She heard Brian continue, “Later, I wondered why I was so impulsive at the time. If it was just to reassure Grace, I could have chosen someone familiar to do this instead of a stranger.”
“Yeah, why is that? The question had haunted Valda Theller now.
“I think it’s because I’m comfortable being with you. Even if we’re only eating a bowl of noodles or a meal in silence, I feel comfortable.” He had not felt that comfort for a long time.
It was why he had said such things at the time to keep the woman from leaving!
“Maybe I’ve liked you since then.” It probably started earlier than he thought.
Valda Theller’s eyes watered as tears were about to pour out. She mised her hands and covered her eyes, “Brian, stop telling me such things!”
Such things would only make her waver when her resolution was hard-won Did he know how much determination and perseverance it took her to ask for a break-up and keep her distance from him to stop loving him when she loved him so much?
Though her hands shielded her eyes, they could not stop the tears.
His fingers pulled her hands away. “Alright, I’ll stop. I’ll stop talking. Don’t cry.”
Her tears had always left him flustered.
He hugged her and coaxed her. The indifference in his phoenix eyes had become affection.
Valda Theller finally stopped crying, but she still sniffled occasionally.
Holding a tissue, Brian carefully wiped the tears from her face. After a moment, he said, “If we have a baby and you don’t want to marry me, then… we don’t have to get married. You can have custody of the child, and the child can live with you.”
She froze and looked at him in surprise. ‘Is this his compromise?” “Valda, I know there are many things I shouldn’t force you to do, but I don’t know what I can do that’ll satisfy both of us. I’m sorry. It’s my fault,” he murmured.
Looking at the lonely look on his face, she felt as though her heart was being twisted by something.
The pain made it hard to breathe.
Her heart ached because she loved him, but this heartache had such bad timing!
Brian’s compromise made Valda Theller feel better.
Whether she was pregnant was not up to her to decide. She could only go with the flow and decide what to do next if she was confirmed to be pregnant.
If she was not pregnant, she could be done with Brian.
However, when the thought crossed her mind, she felt an emptiness in her heart.
Valda Theller and Brian spent the next few days together in the mansion.
Brian had a desk set aside in his study so she would not feel uncomfortable using his desk.
However, Valda Theller did not feel comfortable using the new desk.
After all, she was sharing the same study as Brian. Even when drawing, she could feel his eyes glancing at her from filme to time, making her feel awkward. She even made several mistakes because of this.
Fortunately, they had separate bedrooms. At least Valda Theller had some personal space. Valda Theller had been counting the days. She feared being pregnant, so she thought it would be nice if the results came later than sooner.

In short, she found every day to be terrifying.
Valda Theller sent a work email to Camille Strickland and chatted with her on her laptop in the study.
Camille Strickland: [By the way, your uncle’s family came to see me today and asked me where you’re staying now. They seem to want to see you.]
Valda Theller: [What did you tell them?]
Gift:
Camille Strickland: (I said you were living with Brian now. Then they said nothing and left readily]
Η
Camille Strickland [Did you block their phone numbers? They said you’re not answering your phone]
Valda Theller: [Yeah)
She should have blocked her uncle’s family’s phone numbers long ago Even blocking them now was considered late!
Camille Strickland. (Well done! But didn’t they try calling you using another phone number?]
Valda Theller: [They did. But as soon as they spoke and I heard their voices, I hung up and blocked their phone numbers]
In other words, she did not give them a chance to talk.
She did not want to listen to what they had to say anyway. They had worn out the last of her affection.
Camille Strickland: [Have you made up your mind this time?]
Valda Theller: [I’ll just consider that my grandparents only gave birth to my father!]
In other words, she no longer considered her uncle and his family her family!
Camille Strickland. [You should have done that long ago! They told me Brian’s suing them. That cousin of yours came to me today crying. saying that he was going to be charged with endangering publicsafety, causing trouble, intentional injury… There’s a bunch, and he might get imprisoned for up to ten years if he’s unlucky!
Valda Theller froze and looked up to the other side of the study. Brian was in front of his computer, dealing with his company matters. He felt Valda Theller’s gaze and immediately turned his head around while asking. “What’s wrong?”
“Did you meet my uncle’s family?”
Brian replied truthfully, “Yes.”
