It would be good if Grace could make her confide.
Grace walked to the back room, only to see Kyla sitting next to the crib. She was looking down at Trista, who was sound asleep.
Hearing Grace’s entrance, Kyla looked up. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to see you.” Grace walked forward. “Didn’t you say you had a three-month deal with Martin Weiss? It’s not even three months yet. Why are you back?”
Kyla smiled bitterly. “It’s better to cut the long suffering short. I was there for more than two months. I figured it out. The longer! stay, the more I’ll annoy him. It’s better to set him free sooner than later.”
Kyla’s voice was calm, but how could Grace not sense the sadness and pain it contained?!
“Then you and him…”
“We have nothing to do with each other anymore. He’ll pay child support every month as per the agreement. Besides that, I won’t bother him in L City either. If the kids want to see him, he’ll get somebody to take them to L City,” said Kyla. “Are you sure you won’t regret it?” She was letting go of someone she loved the most. She would live the rest of her life in regret.
Kyla muttered, “I… don’t know. But I want to do what’s best for him. Now that he doesn’t love me, there’ll be another woman beside him. That woman can make him happy and take good care of him.”
“But if his hypnosis is lifted and he recovers the feelings he once had for you, he’ll surely regret it and suffer,” said Grace.
“No.” Kyla shook her head and said, “He could’ve lifted his hypnosis at any time because he set the secret password himself. And only he knows what it is. But he refuses to do so, and…”
“And what?”
“And he promised me he’ll never lift his hypnosis,” said Kyla.
Grace was shocked. “What do you mean he promised you? Did you ask for it?”
She said, “You can call it that, but that wasn’t exactly it. He didn’t want his hypnosis to be lifted at all, and I just said that I hoped he would lift it when I signed the divorce papers in the future. He agreed readily. He did not even have a moment’s hesitation.
Grace pressed her red lips slightly as she looked reluctant. Would two people who were in love miss out on each other like this?
Kyla fell silent but then said casually, “Not everything is perfect in life. Perhaps Martin Weiss and I aren’t meant for each other. But I won’t drive myself into the corner. I’ll be fine and raise our two children. Life isn’t just about love to me.”
“Let me know as soon as possible if you need anything,” said Grace. Kyla was stronger than she thought. Kyla quipped, “Okay, I’ll ask you for help if anything happens. You won’t be able to hide from me!”
The two looked at each other and smiled. Just then, Grace’s phone rang. She picked it up, and Lina’s voice came from it. “Grace, do you know what I’ve heard?
Her surprised voice sounded as if she had heard something shocking.
Grace said, “Just tell me. Don’t make me guess.” Knowing her best friend’s character, there were many things that she would make a fuss about. She might not be able to figure it out even after half an hour.
Without wasting time, Lina said, “I heard Queenie Mack’s detention is related to Brian, and he did it for a woman.”
Grace froze. The gossip news that Queenie Mack was detained by the police was from two weeks ago.
They had casually spoken about it when she was chatting with Lina. Lina even said Queenie Mack had a backer or something in Emerald City. They speculated that Queenie Mack must have hit a snag that even her backer would not protect her.
It turned out that Brian had something to do with it.
“Besides, the woman Brian did it for is Valda Theller.” Lina continued to share the gossip she heard. “I heard that Queenie Mack gave Valda Theller trouble, causing Valda Theller to get hurt and hospitalized. Then, Queenie Mack was arrested by the police.
After getting out of the detention center, Queenie Mack seemed to have asked her backer for help, but it was useless. Brian made it clear that he wanted Queenie Mack to ‘get what she deserved’. No one will help her!”
“How is Valda Theller now?” Grace asked.
“I’m not sure, but I’ve heard it’s nothing serious. I think Brian’s serious about Valda Theller. I heard Queenie Mack’s backer is Brian’s friend. If he wasn’t serious about Valda Theller, he could’ve done his friend a favor. It didn’t have to be like this,” said Lina, “It’s great if it’s for real,” said Grace. It meant Brian was over her.
Besides, Valda Theller looked like a simple woman. Maybe only someone like her could make Brian fall in love.
After ending the call, Kyla asked what had happened. Grace then roughly told her about the call and how she and Lina had met Brian and Valda Theller in the mall the last time.
Kyla looked surprised when she heard that. “I didn’t expect Brian…”
bus wife is an Ex-Convict!
“I hope he can be happy,” said Grace.
He had gone through thick and thin with her when she was younger. However, she was only a passerby in his life. Would Valda Theller be the one to accompany Brian all his life?
Grace went to the study after the two children had gone to bed that night.
Jason was having a video conference in the study. Grace crept in and sat on the couch. She watched Jason hold his meeting while holding her chin.
She was used to it.
He was busy with his work. Even at home, he often needed to review documents and have video conferences with the senior executives of foreign branches.
He needed to lead such a large company. One could imagine how heavy the burden on his shoulders was.
Even so, he always tried to make time for her and the children.
Sometimes, she would occasionally wake up in the middle of the night and find him reviewing some documents even though he had gone to bed with her.
He would say nonchalantly to her, “I just have a few things to finish, then I’ll go to bed.”
At such times, she would regret that she could not help him with anything. She had suggested that she join the company to help him.
“No thanks. You’ll have to learn a lot of things all over again if you come and help me,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter. Even if I have to start all over again, I’m confident I can do well,” she said.
“I know. My wife is an excellent student, after all. Learning everything over again is easy, but business isn’t what you like. Law is what you want to do with your life, isn’t it?” he said.
“But…”
“Grace, I hope you can do what you love. All I’m doing right now is to provide a better life for you and our children so that you can do what you love. If you indulge me instead, everything I’m doing will be meaningless, won’t it?”
“You’re working so hard, but I can’t help you with anything,” Grace said apologetically.
“You did help me out. Didn’t you help me with the company’s legal matters?” he asked.
“It’s just a favor. Besides, the company already has a dedicated legal team,” she mumbled.
“When you have more experience in this area in a few years, you can take charge of the company’s legal department. That’ll help me share a lot,” he said.
Grace looked at Jason, who was having a meeting with foreign senior executives in German. ‘Will I be able to handle the company’s legal affairs in the future? Do I have the ability?”
Then, she shook her head to get rid of the uncertainty at the bottom of her heart. ‘I can do it! I have the ability and confidence to do it well.’
What she needed to do now was enrich her professional knowledge in the coming years.
Jason ended the meeting, walked up to Grace, and said, “Why were you shaking your head just now?
Does your head hurt?”
“No, I was just thinking about something,” said Grace.
He sat down next to her, raised his hand, and gently stroked her belly, which was more than five months pregnant. Her belly looked even more obvious now.
“How’s the baby today?” he asked.
“They’re fine. They kicked a few times,” she said. The baby’s kicks felt more obvious as she got further along in the pregnancy.
“I’ll go with you to the pregnancy check-up tomorrow,” he said.
“But didn’t you say you have an important meeting tomorrow?”
“Well, I’ve just finished it,” he said. She then realized that he had pushed back tomorrow’s meeting. He always tried his best to accompany her for all her pregnancy check-ups.
Grace said, “You could use a little more rest. I can ask someone else to accompany me for the pregnancy check-ups.”
“But I don’t want to miss any pregnancy check-ups. I want to know as much as I can about you and the baby’s condition,” said Jason.
