After ending the call, Valda Theller looked through her phone contact list and looked at the words ‘Brian’ that showed up on her screen. It was rather ridiculous that she got a boyfriend in such a way.
However, it was considered a gain that he agreed to model for her.
The next day, Valda Theller texted her schedule to Brian.
Two days later, Valda Theller went on her first date with Brian.
“Well… Is there anything we need to do when we meet?” Valda Theller asked. After all, her experience of dating the opposite sex was limited to her time with Raymond Bowman.
“You can do whatever you want,” Brian said indifferently. Although there was still indifference and estrangement on his face, what he said was enough to provoke the imagination of others.
Valda Theller wailed to herself. ‘Does he know how easily his statement can mislead others? If he ran into someone who had other ideas for him, he wouldn’t…’
The seductive image instantly came to her mind…
“What’s the matter?” His voice suddenly rang in her ears.
She instantly came to her senses and blushed. “Uh… Nothing.
I’m thinking we could go to my go to comic cafe to hang out, get a table, and read comics or something if it’s okay with you. By the way, do you read comics? We can do something else if you don’t.”
“Do you go there often?” he asked.
“Yes, it’s a hobby and a necessity for my work,” she said.
“Let’s go there. The idea is to spend more time together and get to know each other better,” said Brian.
Otherwise, Grace could probably see through him quickly even if they acted in front of her.
Since he wanted to put on a show, he would try his best to make it realistic and convince Grace that he had indeed gotten over her.
Maybe she would feel relieved in that way.
The comic cafe Valda Theller mentioned was located in the west of tMason Swansonty. It had many comics and independent private rooms equipped with computers and internet access.
The cafe provided free drinks and cost ten dollars an hour.
Valda Theller often came here to find some new comics to read.
Although the internet was advanced nowadays and one could read many comics online, she still enjoyed the feeling of flipping through paper books.
Valda Theller led Brian to an empty couch and said, “If you have a comic you want to read, you can go to the bookshelf and look for it. What do you want to drink? I’ll get it for you.”
“Water will do,” said Brian.
Therefore, Valda Theller got Brian a glass of water and a glass of orange juice for herself. When she got back to her seat, she found Brian reading a comic book in his hand.
However, Valda Theller froze when she caught a glimpse of the comic book cover. It was… the comic she drew.
The problem was that she never told him her pseudonym was ‘Zhong Xinyue’!
However, on second thought, it seemed natural that he would know her pseudonym since he was able to find out her name, occupation, and home address.
Valda Theller felt a little awkward to have someone read the comic she drew in front of her. Especially when the male protagonist of the comic she drew was paranoid and overbearing to the person he loved. There were also a lot of intimate scenes in the comic.
Seeing that he was about to flip to the page with the intimate scenes, Valda Theller quickly said, “Mr.
Hart… Your water!”
Brian looked up at Valda Theller and reached one hand out to take the water. “Thank you. Also, I think we need to confirm our nicknames for each other. We don’t look like a couple if you keep calling me Mr.
Hart. Don’t you think so, Valda?”
When his mouth uttered the word ‘Valda’, she felt as if her heartbeat had increased suddenly.
Only female friends would call her ‘Valda’, while her relatives called her ‘Lil Ke’. As for her colleagues at work, they called her by her pseudonym, Xinyue.
“I’ll call you… Bryn?” she called.
The look in his eyes changed instantly. However, his long eyelashes covered his eyes in the next moment. “Call me Brian. Don’t call me Bryn.”
It was because it reminded him of Grace. It was what Grace had called him as a child.
‘Bryn… Bryn…’ The name seemed to have been engraved into his bones and could not be erased.
“Oh, okay,” Valda Theller replied immediately, but she scolded herself for her stupidity earlier. A nickname like Bryn was usually used for kids. No one would call a grown-up man in his 30s Bryn.
“Try calling me that,” he said.
“Now?” She blinked.
“Otherwise?” he asked nonchalantly.
“Li… Brian…” she called with some embarrassment as her lips moved.
“You’ll get used to it after calling me that more often,” Brian said as he looked down at the comic book he was holding.
Just when he was about to turn the page, Valda Theller suddenly shouted in desperation, “Uhh… How about I find you another comic?”
“No thanks. I haven’t finished this one,” he said.
“But… But…” Her face blushed slightly. B His eyes glimmered as he seemed to realize something. He asked, “What’s the matter? You don’t like me reading the comics you drew?”
“I draw… romance comics for women. Men like you probably won’t enjoy them. You don’t have to force yourself to read the comics I drew,” she said lamely.
“I’m not exactly being forced to read them. I watch some romantic films too. I don’t mind reading such comics. Besides, we need to get to know each other better,” he said.
‘But the problem is that… there’s a lot of intimate scenes at the back!’
Watching his fingers flip the pages again, she grabbed his fingers in desperation.
“Hmm?” He raised his eyebrows and looked at her with those dark phoenix eyes. “You don’t want me to continue?”
She laughed drily. “Well… Some scenes at the back aren’t that appropriate.”
“Even if there’s something largely inappropriate, it should be impossible to publish it according to the country’s current publishing standards,” he said.
“What I mean is that… Uhh… It’s quite inappropriate,” she explained hastily.
“It’s alright even if there’s something inappropriate. Do you think I’m not fit to see that because I’m not 18 yet? But I won’t read it if you don’t want me to,” he said in reply.
Valda Theller froze. After a moment’s hesitation, she withdrew her hand.
She had hoped that more people could read the comics she drew. That way, she could share the stories and images she found beautiful with others.
Brian continued to read it.
Valda Theller could not help feeling nervous because she knew that the next scene involved a lot of kissing as well as the two protagonists’ wedding night. Although she focused on aesthetics and expressed the scene obscurely, anyone with basic common sense would be able to understand what was going on. Brian read quietly as he turned the pages with slender fingers. Daylight fell on him through the window.
Mixed with the indoor lighting, he looked so beautiful.
He had short black hair, fair skin, a straight nose bridge, and thin lips. Those deep phoenix eyes were looking down, making his eyelashes look more obvious. They looked just like feather fans.
Even in the entertainment industry where there were so many handsome men, there were not many male celebrities with eyelashes like his. Furthermore, the man in front of her was probably bare-faced.
Valda Theller suddenly had the impulse to draw down the scene in front of her. She took out a pen and a notebook she usually used to record her inspiration from her bag. She began to draw on the blank paper.
When Brian finished reading the comic in his hands, he looked up to find Valda Theller drawing.
She was drawing… him!
It was not a comic version of him but more of a realistic sketch portrait.
