No one in Deer City had ever seen George Gregory cry like this! One could tell that he was extremely miserable.
“That’s all I know,” said Philip Barlow.
“That’s… all… muttered George Gregory before suddenly laughing, but his laughter sounded so sad.
What Philip Barlow said just made him feel distressed. Then… all those years of…
He could not even imagine it.
Philip Barlow sighed. Indeed, sometimes, it was better not to know.
The meal eventually turned into a drinking session with George Gregory drinking glass after glass as if trying to vent all the anguish in his heart. Philip Barlow accompanied him to drink a little.
He did not drink much, though. He controlled himself.
In the end, George Gregory was terribly drunk. Philip Barlow looked at the time and said, “I’ll have someone take you home.” He walked over to George Gregory’s chair and helped him up as he spoke.
George Gregory shouted, “Tell me… Why… do I still feel so bad after drinking so much? Why did things turn out this way? Why wasn’t I the one… who rescued her…”
“It’s already happened. There’s no point in thinking about the past now. Instead, why don’t you think about how you can get her to forgive you?” Philip Barlow said.
However, George Gregory sobbed. “No, she won’t forgive me… She’ll never forgive me for as long as she lives.”
Suddenly, George Gregory grabbed Philip Barlow’s arm. It was as though he was about to drown and finally managed to grab onto a piece of driftwood. “Tell me. What do I have to do so that Amby can forgive me and fall in love with me again…”
Philip Barlow looked at the miserable-looking George Gregory and could only reply, “I don’t know. It’s because I’ve never wanted anyone to fall in love with me.”
George Gregory muttered, “Then you… You must have never been in love with anyone. It’s nice not to have loved anyone… all your life… That way, you won’t be as miserable as I am…
But… I can’t… I can’t help loving her…” George Gregory’s crying made Philip Barlow sympathize with him.
After helping George Gregory out of the club, Philip Barlow asked the driver to take him home before driving himself back to the Barlow family’s house.
When he got home, he heard from the servant that his sen was still practicing in the piano room, so he went to the piano room and gently pushed the door open. He only saw the little one playing attentively in front of the piano. There were many little paper frogs that Jasper had given to his son on the piano.
His son, who normally disdained expensive toys, treated these little frogs as though they were treasures.
In his son’s opinion, his own father was not nearly as important as that girl.
As the father, he had never fallen in love with anyone, but his son was different. Although the little one had not fully grasped the idea of ‘love’, he only knew that Jasper was important to him. However…
maybe the feeling would turn into love when he was older.
Perhaps it would turn into… a paranoid controlling behavior instead?
He had no idea how deep his son’s feelings for Jasper would be in the future, but one thing was certain-he did not want his son to be like George Gregory.
At the end of the piano tune, William noticed Philip Barlow standing in the doorway. “Daddy,” he called out.
Philip Barlow walked into the piano room and looked at the little frogs sitting on the piano. He picked up one of the little frogs and said, “Do you like them?”
“Yes.” William nodded without hesitation.
“Is it because Jasper gave them to you?”
“Yes.” The little one nodded again.
“Do you like Jasper enough to want to be with her all the time?” Philip Barlow asked again.
The little head nodded a third time.
“But what if you find out one day that you’re not the person Jasper likes the most? What if she likes someone else and he’s the one she wants to be with?” Philip Barlow asked.
However, he could not help laughing after asking the question. ‘What’s the matter with me? Is it because I was influenced by George Gregory today? Is that why I’m asking a six-year-old such a question?’
“Then I’ll make myself so brilliant that she’ll only want to be with me,” the little one answered earnestly.
Philip Barlow’s lips moved, and he suppressed the slight sigh in his mouth. Sometimes, those who were better than others. would not necessarily be the recipients of love.
Otherwise, there would not be so many people who failed to get whatever they wanted.
“Okay, then you’ll become a brilliant person,” said Philip Barlow as he touched the back of his son’s head. He would try his best to give him good resources.
Moments later, Philip Barlow’s phone rang. It was a call from the driver.
“Mr. Barlow, I wanted to send Mr. Gregory to the Gregory family’s house, but Mr. Gregory insisted that I take him to another place when we were on our way or he would jump out of the car. I… I could only send him to where he wanted to go,” the driver said and gave the address.
Philip Barlow knew that the address was where Grace had rented a place for Amber Mitchell. Grace had asked him to take care of Amber Mitchell when she left.
It seemed George Gregory had gone to see Amber Mitchell again after getting drunk. “Mr. Barlow, Mr. Gregory has taken the elevator upstairs. I… I’m still downstairs. Well… shall I wait for Mr. Gregory?” the driver asked.
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Con Philip Barlow said, “No, come back first. Someone will take him back to the Gregory family’s house when the time comes.”
After the call, Philip Barlow looked at his son. “William, don’t misunderstand Jasper if you want to be with her in the future. When she’s in trouble, don’t just stand by and watch.”
“I won’t stand by and watch. I’ll do my best to help Jasper if she’s ever in trouble!” the little one said earnestly.
Philip Barlow smiled. “That’s great!”
He just hoped his son would remember what he said today no matter what happened in the future.
Amber Mitchell did not expect George Gregory to come to her door drunk.
“George Gregory, it’s late. I’m going to bed!” Amber Mitchell said coldly, trying to close the door.
However, his hand was on the door, preventing her from closing it.
“Don’t… Don’t close the door. I… I just… came to see you… I… I’d like to have a word with you.
Don’t… Don’t worry. I won’t do anything else. I won’t… I won’t hurt you anymore…” he stammered. He reeked of alcohol and was drunk.
Amber Mitchell frowned. ‘How much did he drink?’ Amber Mitchell said, “But I don’t want to see you, and I don’t have anything to say to you! George Gregory, if you want to get into a drunken fit, don’t do it here. If you really don’t want to hurt me, don’t ever show up in front of me again.”
Her words were like a slap in the face.
His body swayed. “Can… Can you give me another punishment? Don’t do this. I… can’t do it. I can’t…”
“Can’t? She sneered suddenly. “Why can’t you do it? Mr. Gregory, you never came to see me when I was in the hospital for so many years!”
He was speechless and began to tremble as if he had been.
struck with the sharpest sword.
“Amby… I know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry…” he whispered. It was the most painful sorrow.
However, no amount of apology was of use. “I told you to stop calling me Amby. You shouldn’t be the one to call me that.”
“Please forgive me, will you? I know how wrong I was. I know I’ve hurt you too much. I’ll make up for all that you’ve suffered, okay?” He sobbed after losing control of his emotions. He hugged her as if he were holding his most precious treasure.
“George Gregory, let go of me!” Amber Mitchell struggled hard.
However, he held her tight. “I’ll make it up to you. I can make it up to you. I’ll make it up to you as long as you say so! Amby, I love you. I really love you…”
“Love? George Gregory, who are you to talk about love? If this is the way you love someone, I would rather you never loved me! Do you know how disgusting it is to be held by someone you hate?” Amber Mitchell shouted.
His body stiffened, and she took the opportunity to push him away.
Slap!
He was slapped hard across the face. “Make it up? How are you going to make it up to me? Can you prevent me from ever being tortured in the mental hospital?
Or can you return me my missing finger?” Amber Mitchell said as she raised her right hand in front of George Gregory.
