“George Gregory, let go of me!” Amber Mitchell said, trying to push him away.

However, he picked her up in his arms and put her back on the hospital bed. “Just stay in bed and don’t go anywhere. The doctor will come and run some more tests on you later.”

George Gregory said as he pressed the nurse’s bell at the bedside.

Moments later, the nurse and doctor arrived. After checking Amber Mitchell’s temperature and blood pressure, as well as running some basic tests, the doctor said, “Everything is okay. There aren’t any problems. But it’s better for her to eat porridge or something that’s easy to digest. She’ll be able to eat normally tomorrow. Also, she’d better stay in the hospital for observation tonight and only go through the discharge formalities tomorrow.”

Amber Mitchell wanted to get out of bed again after the doctor and nurse left.

George Gregory stopped her and said, “Do you still want to leave? The doctor said to keep you overnight for observation.”

Amber Mitchell sighed in frustration. “I’m just going to the hospital’s cafeteria to see if they have porridge.”

George Gregory was relieved. Since when did he become so cautious in front of her that even the smallest move could lead him to make such speculations?

“I’ve got someone to prepare porridge. I’ll ask them to bring it over,” he said.

“No.” Amber Mitchell refused without hesitation.

His expression stiffened. “The porridge is still hot. I also asked them to add nutritious ingredients. The best you can get in the hospital’s cafeteria is plain porridge.”

“No thanks. I can go downstairs and buy some plain porridge myself,” she said. She waved his hand away from her and walked out of bed.

She carefully got out of bed this time, and her legs did not give way like before when she almost collapsed. However, just as she had put on her shoes and walked out of the ward, he suddenly grabbed her. “Are you not willing to accept anything that comes from me? Not even a bowl of porridge?”

She glanced at him, and her lips slowly parted as she uttered, “Yes.”

However, the word seemed to cast him into hell.

He looked at her blankly and did not realize when he had let 1.

Even after she left the ward, he still stared at his hand in a daze like a sculpture.

Her warmth still lingered on his hand, but it seemed as though he could never close the distance between them!

Amber Mitchell ordered a bowl of plain porridge and a plate of side dishes at the hospital’s cafeteria before eating at a small table.

After eating, she did not return to the ward but went to the floor Simon’s ward was on.

Due to the transfusion, Simon was moved into a sterile ward again. Amber Mitchell could only watch her son through the glass window.

She learned from the nurse that Simon was doing well. It would take a few days to see how much effect her blood would have on his condition.

It did not matter to her whether the child would eventually acknowledge her or not. All she wanted was to make sure he was alive and had a bright future.

After staying there for some time, Amber Mitchell was about to turn around when she saw that George Gregory was standing behind her.

“When Simon is better, I’ll tell him that you’re his biological mother,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter even if you don’t tell him. It’s good enough that he knows Louise Mitchell isn’t his biological mother.” Even if she did not care about the title, she did not want her child to acknowledge the woman who caused her all her misery as his biological mother.

“I won’t let my child regard Louise Mitchell as his biological mother. I’ll tell him all the crimes Louise Mitchell committed when he’s older and able to distinguish right from wrong. I can also help you get back all the shares Louise Mitchell took from you,” said George Gregory.

However, Amber Mitchell’s expression remained unfazed even after hearing that. “I’ll find a way to get back the shares Louise Mitchell took myself. It’s your decision whether you wish to tell Simon about Louise Mitchell. You don’t need to explain it to me.”

She walked past him, intending to get back to her ward.

He immediately called and stopped her. “Amby, must you reject me like this?”

Amber Mitchell paused and turned to look at him. “Stop calling me Amby. Also, I’m rejecting you because you rejected me first. Don’t you think it’s ridiculous for you to say that now?”

At that moment, George Gregory felt as if something was stuck in his throat. He could not say a word!

When she was discharged from the hospital the next day, Amber Mitchell went to see Simon again. Simon was already awake, but he had a tube attached to his nose and a drip stuck to his hand as he lay on the hospital bed.

Amber Mitchell could only look at the child in the sterile ward through the glass window.

Simon also saw her and pouted at her, which made Amber Mitchell smile. Whether or not the little one still hated her, she hoped that her blood could help him. She wished for the child She stepped out of the hospital. Once she reached the hospital’s entrance, she hailed a taxi to leave. A figure slowly walked out from behind her and watched the taxi drive away.

George Gregory smiled bitterly. He had done nothing and just coldly looked on back then.

He now wanted to do something, but she was unwilling to accept him. Simon was now the only connection between them.

Two days later, Philip Barlow was surprised to receive an invitation from George Gregory. They were both in Deer City and had business deals together, so he dared not refuse.

However, George Gregory’s sudden invitation made him curious.

The venue was an exclusive club in Deer City. By the time Philip Barlow arrived, George Gregory had already set up a table full of fine wine and delicious food.

“You didn’t ask me here today just to dine with me, did you?” Philip Barlow asked as he raised his eyebrows.

“It’s to thank you. Thank you for saving Amber Mitchell,” said George Gregory.

Philip Barlow’s eyes glimmered. “You don’t have to thank me. I was just doing someone a favor. If you really want to thank someone, you should thank the Reed couple of Emerald City, Brian, and… Amber Mitchell’s best friend, Kyla. They’re the ones who helped Amber Mitchell!”

George Gregory said bitterly, “I will. I’ll thank them for helping Amber Mitchell!”

He spoke as he filled his and Philip Barlow’s wine glasses. “But I’d like to thank you no matter what.

Amber Mitchell would probably have suffered a little longer if it weren’t for you. I’ll down my drink to show you my gratitude!”

George Gregory raised his wine glass and drank it in one gulp, then another one. He drank three glasses in a row.

Philip Barlow picked up his wine glass and drank from it as well.

“It seems Amber Mitchell is your son’s biological mother,” said Philip Barlow. Although there was no word in the news about who Simon’s biological mother was, the answer was not hard to guess.

George Gregory said sarcastically, “Yes, it’s Amber Mitchell. It’s funny that I didn’t know that until now. What’s funnier is that I found out I’ve been kept in the dark. Everything I believed in turned out to be wrong!”

“Better to know now than never to know at all, no?” Philip Barlow asked.

George Gregory smiled bitterly. For a moment, he did not know which was better.

“Tell me about Amber Mitchell’s condition when you saved her. Tell me what you know,” said George Gregory. All he knew was what was said in court and nothing else.

If he had gone to the mental hospital to see her even once, many things might not have been dragged on until now.

Philip Barlow said, “What’s the point of finding out now? It’ll only make you feel worse about yourself.

Some things are better left unknown.”

George Gregory said, “But I want to know about it. Even if it’ll only make me more miserable, it’s… the pain that she went through. I didn’t protect and save her, so I deserve to suffer now!”

Philip Barlow sighed and finally told George Gregory what he knew.

Philip Barlow fold George Gregory how Amber Mitchell was tortured in the mental hospital and about the basement of the Mitchell family’s mansion where Louise Mitchell hid Amber Mitchell.

Even an onlooker like Philip Barlow could not help sighing at the incident. An heiress who used to be so glamorous was reduced to such a state.

George Gregory could only feel a throbbing pain in his heart.

It was so severe that it was difficult for him to breathe.

The woman he took great care of had suffered such treatment, but he… had something to do with it!

He failed to protect her and even put her through all that pain.

‘Did she grow to hate me when she was suffering?

‘I deserve her hatred! What was I doing while she was tortured? I was enjoying being a happy family of three!

‘What… What have I done?’ When Philip Barlow was done speaking, he looked at George Gregory and found that the man in front of him was already in tears.
