There were Herman’s clothes in the closet. That photo of her and Herman that was taken secretly and a photo of Herman alone were on the nightstand. Herman’s favorite books were also on the shelf.

Staying in a room like this made her feel as if Herman was with her.

Daley Moss had asked her what she wanted to do with her life.

She was thinking about taking back her shares in Mitchell Group by legal means before selling them and using the money to engage in archaeology, which she and Herman were both interested in.

Herman had planned to go abroad to further his studies in archaeology before returning to the country to make some contributions to the industry.

In that case, she would fulfill Herman’s unfulfilled wishes.

However, there was one more important thing she could do before that-helping Simon with his blood transfusion.

He was her child! She gave birth to him, so she had to save his life!

Just then, Amber Mitchell’s phone rang. She picked it up. It was a call from the hospital.

“Is this Miss Amber Mitchell? I’m from the hospital. Can you come to the hospital tomorrow for a comprehensive body check-up for Simon’s blood transfusion?” they said.

Although Amber Mitchell already did some tests before donating blood to Simon the last time, she needed to undergo a more thorough test for the transfusion this time.

The demand for blood would be much greater than the last time as well.

“Okay, no problem,” answered Amber Mitchell. She ended the call after making an appointment with them.

Amber Mitchell went to the hospital the next day. The nurse gave Amber Mitchell a series of confirmation documents and asked her to sign them. Then, she had her blood drawn and an X-ray taken, which was almost tantamount to a full-body check-up.

Amber Mitchell cooperated without a word of complaint.

After the body check-up, Simon’s attending doctor called Amber Mitchell to the office for a talk. When Amber Mitchell walked into the office, she also found George Gregory there.

However, George Gregory looked much more haggard and thinner than she had seen him a few days before.

Amber Mitchell only glanced briefly at him before withdrawing her gaze and looking at the doctor.

The attending doctor began explaining Simon’s current condition and said, “I hope that Simon can have the transfusion as soon as possible. Miss Amber Mitchell, can we do the transfusion the day after tomorrow if there’s nothing wrong with your test results?”

“Sure,” Amber Mitchell said without hesitation. “But it’ll be a great strain on your body to donate so much blood at once. After all, this will be different from normal blood donations,” the doctor said.

“It’s alright. I’m mentally prepared,” answered Amber Mitchell.

During the conversation, Amber Mitchell could feel George Gregory’s eyes watching her.

However, she did not want to look at him.

When the doctor finished speaking, Amber Mitchell said, “Alright, I’ll be here on time the day after tomorrow. Is there anything else?”

The doctor shook his head. “No.”

Amber Mitchell got up and left the doctor’s office, only to hear rapid footsteps behind her as she walked into the hallway.

George Gregory ran up to Amber Mitchell and blocked her way. “Are you going back now?”

“What else?” she asked.

“Don’t you… want to visit Simon?” he asked.

‘Simon?’ Amber Mitchell’s eyes flickered a little as hesitation appeared on her face.

‘That’s my child… Although I didn’t take care of him or get the chance to bond with him, I’m glad to find out that he’s still alive. I’ve even been crying in the dead of night for days now!

She wanted to see and talk to the child. She wanted to touch and hug him!

She had never held the little one since he was born.

Seeing Amber Mitchell’s hesitation, George Gregory continued saying, “Simon woke up yesterday. He’s still a little weak, but you can go and see him. But-”

Pressing his thin lips together, he added, “Because he’s still weak, I’m momentarily keeping the news from him. I didn’t tell him that you’re his biological mother. Don’t tell him that you’re his mother when you see him later.”

“Got it,” Amber Mitchell said indifferently with no expression on her face.

George Gregory explained uneasily, “I just want to wait until he’s well enough to tell him that you’re his mother. I have no intention of hiding it from him.”

“It doesn’t matter to me whether you tell him or not,” said Amber Mitchell. She only wanted the child to live well and healthily.

“It doesn’t matter?” His expression changed slightly. It mattered to him, but it did not matter to her? “Would you rather he not be our child so you can distance yourself from me better?”

“George Gregory, what are you trying to say? Simon’s our child, and that’s a fact that can’t be changed. It doesn’t matter to me whether he knows I’m his mother.” After going through so many things, she was exhausted and became more open-minded.

She only hoped that the child could survive and peacefully live the life he wanted. That was enough. After a pause, Amber Mitchell continued saying, “Besides, I’m not going to fight you for the child’s custody. You can rest assured that nothing will change.”

It was undoubtedly the best for Simon to stay with the Gregory family. The Gregory family could provide Simon a lavish life and meticulous care, which was beyond her ability.

Besides, Simon must have gotten used to living with the Gregory family after so many years. He was used to the Gregory family members accompanying him. She was no more than a stranger to Simon.

However, her statement made George Gregory’s heart sink.

He hoped that everything could change. He hoped Simon could provide them an opportunity and she could take him back.

Even though it might take a long time and a lot of effort to get there, he was willing to do it.

However, she now told him that nothing would change.

Was she also telling him that she would never accept him? With almost weak steps, George Gregory took Amber Mitchell to Simon’s ward.

Unlike the last time when she had seen the little one in a coma, he was not wearing an oxygen mask anymore and appeared to be in good spirits. He sat on his hospital bed building a toy car.

Amber Mitchell looked at the little one. He looked pale, but he was in good spirits. His fingers were flexible as he built the toy. She could tell he enjoyed building toys like this.

When the two of them came to the little one’s bedside, he stopped and looked at them. Of course, the little one’s eyes were mainly focused on Amber Mitchell’s face.

The eyes similar to George Gregory’s narrowed slightly as if they were sizing up Amber Mitchell or were thinking of something.

The little one suddenly said, “I know you! You’re Mommy’s mentally ill sister!”

A weird atmosphere filled the air as soon as he said that.

George Gregory immediately said, “Who told you she’s mentally ill? She’s not! When you were in a coma, she was the one who saved you by donating her blood. She’s donating her blood to you again for your full-body transfusion treatment the day after tomorrow!”

“I don’t want her blood. Mommy said she’s not a good person. She’s a bad person. She harmed Grandpa, Grandma, and Mommy! Where’s Mommy? Why hasn’t Mommy come to see me?” Simon exclaimed.

Although Louise Mitchell was not close to Simon, it was children’s nature to want to be close to their mothers. George Gregory’s thin lips were almost pressed into a line. “Don’t mention your… mommy again! And this woman before you has never harmed anyone!”

“I want to talk about Mommy. I don’t want this woman to save me. I want Mommy to save me! Where’s Mommy? I want to see Mommy!” Simon tried to get down from the hospital bed.

His son’s mentions of ‘Mommy’ only made George Gregory more awkward.

It reminded him of how stupid he was to believe Louise Mitchell and not compare her DNA with the child.

If he had done that one extra step, Louise Mitchell would not have been able to deceive him for so many years. He and Amber Mitchell might not have ended up like this.

“That’s enough. Stop asking for that woman. She can’t save you at all!” George Gregory scolded.

However, the little one threw a tantrum and shouted even louder, “Mommy, Mommy!”

George Gregory raised his hand and was about to hit his son, but Amber Mitchell grabbed his hand.

“There’s nothing wrong with a child wanting to see his mother. If anything, it’s the adults who are in the wrong.”

As she spoke, she leaned closer to the little one while half bending down. Her eyes were almost level with the little boys’

in front of her. He was her son with her genes and the same blood type. The boy’s appearance was a mix of hers and George Gregory’s. The outline of his face, eyebrows, and lips were similar to hers.
