“Martin Weiss, how can you still be so stupid after all these years?” he murmured to himself.
It was a long time before he started the car. He drove aimlessly on the streets of Emerald City. It was not until night fell and the moon was high in the sky that he realized he had driven to the store’s entrance again.
The door was closed, and only the light pouring from the windows showed that the occupants were still awake.
Martin Weiss got out of the car but did not walk to the store. Instead, he leaned against the door and stood there quietly.
When Kyla went to draw the curtains before going to bed, she happened to see Martin Weiss standing beside the car outside the window. She could not help freezing.
However, moments later, she drew the curtains and ignored the person outside the window.
It was better if she and Martin Weiss saw less of each other!
Kyla turned around, picked up the cream for bruises in the medical kit, undressed her son, and applied the cream on her son.
Nelson had a lot of bruises on his small frame from his training recently.
He was getting a lot more bruises compared to when he went to learn taekwondo.
Every time she saw the bruises on her son, Kyla could not help but advise her son to give up and switch back to taekwondo. It could strengthen his body too.
However, Nelson insisted on learning what he was currently learning despite the number of injuries he got.
“Mommy, the coach says I’m more agile than before. When I’m stronger, I’ll be able to protect you and my sister!”
said Nelson Corbyn.
Kyla could not help smiling. “How do you know that I’m carrying a girl? What if it’s a boy?”
“If it’s a boy, I’ll protect him too. But I’ll teach him kung fu and make him strong as well,” replied Nelson Corbyn.
Then, he looked carefully at Kyla’s belly. “But I still think you’re carrying a girl.”
Kyla laughed. Speaking of which, she had hoped for a son and a daughter before!
“By the way, Mommy, when am I going to see Aunt Lina and her baby?” Nelson Corbyn had wanted to see the baby since learning that Lina had given birth.
However, Lina had been in a coma in the hospital carlier. Kyla did not tell the little one about it. She just told him Aunt Lina and the baby needed to rest quietly and that it was inconvenient for so many people to visit them in the hospital. They could only go there after some time.
“I’ll take you to see Aunt Lina and the baby in a few days. Aunt Lina will be happy to see you,” said Kyla.
Nelson Corbyn replied, “Okay, I’ll protect Tina and be a good brother to her too!”
After applying the medicine on her son, Kyla dressed him in his pajamas, covered him with a blanket, and lay down herself.
At night, a layer of thin sweat broke out on Kyla’s forehead. Her brows furrowed tighter as she muttered something.
Her head gradually moved from left to right as if she was trying to get out of something.
“Ah!” She opened her eyes suddenly as she sat up. Then, she realized that she had a nightmare!
In the dream, she experienced the moment when Martin Weiss took her to the operating room. However, Martin Weiss did not stop the operation but insisted on making her go through with it. The anesthesia needle went into her body. She wanted to struggle and escape, but her body could not move no matter what…
Fortunately… it was just a dream!
Kyla gasped and looked at her son sleeping next to her. Nelson was still sleeping soundly, undisturbed by her.
She got up and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, only to see Martin Weiss still leaning against the car from the kitchen window.
His posture was the same as earlier.
However, hours had passed since then!
Kyla held the cup tightly in her hand. After a long time, she finally put it down and walked toward the door.
When she opened the door, Martin Weiss seemed to hear her as he suddenly raised his head and looked toward the door. The next moment, he caught sight of her figure.
Martin Weiss’s eyes somehow heated up.
He thought she would not look his way again even if she saw him standing outside, but she came out.
Kyla walked toward Martin Weiss step by step but stopped when she was three steps away from him.
Martin Weiss took a step forward, and Kyla took one step backward.
“Don’t move. Just keep it at this distance!” said Kyla.
Gloom flashed across Martin Weiss’s eyes. He stopped moving. “Okay, I won’t move!”
“What are you doing standing here in the middle of the night?” asked Kyla.
Martin Weiss muttered, “I… I didn’t know where to go. I ended up here without knowing it. I did a lot of thinking as I stood here. Maybe you’re right. All this time, I’ve only been thinking about my feelings and not yours. I domineeringly decided everything without thinking about how much this decision would hurt you.”
He looked at her with pleading eyes. “Kyla, will you forgive me? I know how ridiculous it is for me to ask you for forgiveness right now, but I just… I just love you too much to lose you!”
Even the mere thought of it made him tremble with fear.
Kyla bit her lip. After a long time, she said, “Martin Weiss, I don’t think we’re suitable for each other. It’s the same as before. You didn’t force me to get the abortion in the end, so I can forgive you since you want me to. But I hope we’ll stop getting involved with each other from now on. I don’t want to… see you unless necessary.”
Martin Weiss felt as if he had been punched hard in his heart. It hurt so much. “Do you hate me that much? Even meeting…” He tried to move toward her again.
However, she backed away as soon as he approached her. “Don’t come over, Martin Weiss. I really don’t want to see you. You know what? I just had another nightmare. I dreamed about what happened today. I dreamed about being pressed down on the operating table and being forced to undergo an operation. You’re not me, and you’ll never know how terrifying it is!”
His face was gloomy as he looked at the distance between them.
They were only three steps away from each other, but it seemed like a chasm. It was a distance he could never cross.
“Martin Weiss, enough is enough, so let’s leave it at that. Just let me go, okay?” murmured Kyla. She loved and hated the man before her. It eventually became a complicated feeling, and she did not know how to face him.
With that said, Kyla turned to return home and closed the door.
Martin Weiss stood outside alone as if only a soulless body was left.
Lina’s health recovered quickly ever since she woke up. She could already get out of bed slowly the next day, and she looked perfectly normal by the fifth day.
Due to her health and the medications she had to take, she could not feed the baby. Therefore, she had no more breast milk. Lina somewhat regretted it.
However, at least she and the baby were alive.
Lina beamed as she held her daughter in the ward. Though the baby was skinny and looked like a little monkey after being born prematurely, Lina found her baby beautiful.
Especially those eyes that looked like Hadwin Stephenson’s. They would probably look so stunning that she would look like Helen of Troy after she grew up.
Lina immediately denied it and said to herself, “Bah! She’ll look like Aphrodite!’
