Kyla struggled to push him away, but she could not push him away with her strength. The man grabbed her hands and pressed down on her. She could not move.
The air was thick with lust. Sometime later, he finally ended the kiss. His lips were pressed against the corner of her lips, and a hoarse voice rang out in the car compartment. “Are you planning to be with Chase Harper?”
Kyla trembled. “This voice… belongs to Martin Weiss!‘
She stood still as she watched the face so close to her slightly raise. The moonlight from the window fell on his face, making it half–dim.
His face displayed a complicated combination of obsession, struggle, pain, and jealousy.
In response, Kyla yanked her hand away from his and slapped him hard.
Slap!
A loud slap rang out in the car compartment. Martin Weiss’s face was slapped sideways, while Kyla felt a burning pain in her palm.
“Martin Weiss, I thought I’ve made it clear. I thought we agreed not to disturb cach other from now on? What are you doing now?”
“What am I doing?” Martin Weiss laughed bitterly at himself. “I love you too much and can’t get over you!”
“But I don’t love you anymore. I got over you a long time ago!” said Kyla as she struggled to push him away, but he still kept a grip on her.
“So are you going to be with Chase Harper?” he asked.
She glared at him. “Who I’m going to be with is none of your business!”
His eyes instantly narrowed, and the look on his face turned cold. “What’s so good about a man like Chase Harper?
What can he give you?”
“What’s so bad about a man like him? At least he won’t hurt me and send me to prison!” she blurted out.
His face instantly paled, and his grip on her loosened.
Kyla took the opportunity to shove Martin Weiss away and hurried out of the car. Just as she was about to make a quick getaway, Martin Weiss’s voice rang out behind her. “Kyla, you can’t be with Chase Harper.”
She instantly paused and turned around, only to see him standing beside the car in silence. He exuded a sense of danger and loneliness. He spoke indifferently as if he were merely stating a fact.
She bit her lip. “Martin Weiss, it’s up to me who I can be with, not you! You’re not some high and mighty god, and I’m not a lowly pest that’s at your mercy!”
With that said, she left without looking back, leaving Martin Weiss standing alone.
After a long while, Martin Weiss slowly raised his hand and caressed the cheek Kyla had just slapped. His cheek was still tingling, but he enjoyed it because she was the one who did it!
‘Who’s the high and mighty god? Who’s the pest? I’m the one who’s at her mercy!‘
“Mr. Weiss, here’s the information you asked for.” They respectfully handed Martin Weiss a stack of information.
Martin Weiss took the information and looked through them. Most of the information was the investigation results on Chase Harper, including Chase Harper’s career, marriage, and children in recent years.
If Chase Harper saw it, he would be surprised at the details.
When Martin Weiss saw that Chase Harper and his ex–wife were divorced, and it was because she cheated on him, Martin Weiss’s eyes darkened as if thinking about something.
The information at the back was from the playground that day, including surveillance footage of Kyla, Chase Harper, and the children in the amusement park. It was stored in a flash drive.
When Martin Weiss saw the video of his son and the little girl Juliet surrounded by other children in the play area, he suddenly felt a pang in his heart.
He read the information and learned that the children called Nelson deaf because they saw the hearing aid in Nelson’s car!
‘Deaf… Deaf! How ironic is it that they called my son that!
He got his men to investigate the situation in Nelson’s school and learned that many students discriminated against his son because of his hearing issue.
Those who discriminated against his son only knew that his son’s mother was an ex–convict. Even if he had already reversed the case for Kyla, many people did not care about whether the court made the wrong judgment and would only continue to discriminate.
What made Martin Weiss miserable the most was that he caused these people to discriminate against Kyla and Nelson.
“I asked you to check on Paisley Daniels. How is it going?” After reading the information, Martin Weiss slowly asked the person in front of him.
“Paisley Daniels has been released from prison and arrived in Emerald City a few days ago. We haven’t found out her specific whereabouts, but she’s probably still in Emerald City,” they said.
Martin Weiss’s eyes grew cold. “Then find her. Find this person for me even if you have to flip Emerald City around!”
‘It’s all because of this woman Paisley Daniels… If this woman hadn’t interfered, would things between Kyla and me go this far?
‘Paisley Daniels is so lucky to only spend five years in prison!
“This woman is probably up to no good since she came to Emerald City after being released from prison. I want Paisley Daniels to continue to pay the price for what she did back then…‘
Kyla went to the small market to stock up her store again and stopped by Chase Harper’s shop. Chase Harper was talking to his staff. Seeing Kyla, he hurriedly stepped forward and asked, “Are you here to restock your store today?” His eyes glanced at the things she was carrying.
Kyla said, “Yeah, I’m done with buying the things, so I dropped by to visit you. Those two people didn’t bother you after you fixed my tricycle, did they?”
“No, their garage has been penalized. Two security guards and one administrator from the market were taken to the police station too. I heard they were working with the garage. No one dares to have such ideas anymore,” said Chase Harper.
“That’s good.” Kyla smiled. Then, she took out a pair of flower hairpins and handed them to Chase Harper. “These are the flower hairpins I bought for Juliet. You can put them on for her after you braid her hair.”
“That’s so generous of you!” Chase Harper said quickly.
“After all you’ve done for me, buying Juliet some trinkets is nothing. Besides, Juliet is adorable,” said Kyla.
“Thank you…” Chase Harper accepted the flower hairpins.
Kyla prepared to leave, and Chase Harper quickly said, “Let me help you carry these things to your tricycle.”
Without waiting for Kyla to say anything, he took the bags of things from herhands.
Kyla smiled at this.
They went to the car park outside the market together, and Chase Harper placed all the bags on Kyla’s little tricycle.
“Be careful on the road and don’t ride too fast,” said Chase Harper.
“Okay, got it. Hurry back,” said Kyla as she rode away on her electric tricycle.
Chase Harper watched Kyla’s back for a few moments before turning back to the market.
Not far away, Martin Weiss was sitting in a black car, staring darkly at Chase Harper’s back. His face was covered with a layer of gloom.
When Chase Harper returned to his shop, his staff member asked curiously, “Boss, who was that just now? She looks pretty. She seems gentle too. She owns the tricycle we fixed last time, right? You even sent it back yourself after fixing it. She’s not your future wife, is she?”
“Go away,” Chase Harper said with a chuckle.
‘My future wife… Speaking of which, Kyla is indeed a good woman. Life would probably be better if I lived with a woman like that.‘
However, he also knew that Kyla only considered him as a friend. The one who truly occupied Kyla’s heart was the person called Martin Weiss!
