There’s no way she and Caden could have anything to talk about other than medical matters!

“Bella, are you busy?” Caden’s voice came from the other end of the phone pretty quickly.

That nickname flashed a hint of anger in Romeo’s eyes. Hmph, calling his fiancée so intimately? Was he asking for trouble?

“What’s up?” Mirabella asked.

“Well, there’s something I want to tell you in person.” Caden seemed a bit nervous, paused, and asked, “Are you free right now? Let’s meet somewhere.”

“You don’t have to work today?” Mirabella asked. She remembered he was on duty last night, so he didn’t have to work during the day. But, “What can’t be said over the phone?”

Why did he need to meet in person?

Now, a dangerous smile appeared on Romeo’s lips. Caden wanted to confess his love to Mirabella? Great, just great!

“I want to talk to you face–to–face,” Caden said, somewhat hesitantly. “You free?”

“Just spit it out over the phone, I’m all ears.”

Caden’s eyes dimmed slightly. After a moment of silence, he finally spilled the beans. I’m heading abroad.”

Mirabella seemed taken aback. Just like that?

“I’ve quit my job at the hospital and my flight’s this afternoon.” As Caden said this, his smile had a hint of bitterness.

‘Where to? Why in such a rush?”

As soon as she asked this, Romeo gripped her hand tightly. Looking up at him, she saw a look of warning and jealousy in his eyes. Mirabella had a hunch he wasn’t telling the whole truth then her expression changed slightly. “That’s not the real reason you’re leaving.”

He often worked overtime and it was par for the course for him. He wouldn’t just get up and quit for no reason so something felt off.

Romeo: She sure knew a lot about him, didn’t she?

“What happened?” Mirabella asked softly.

Caden hadn’t expected her to be so sharp. Pulling the wool over her eyes was proving to be a tall order.

Before he met Mirabella, he had indeed been interning at Hope Hospital, but he never worked overtime. Mirabella’s arrival changed everything.

During that time, Grace Melton’s condition worsened. Mirabella was at the hospital every day, sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night.

In order to spend more time with Mirabella, he volunteered for overtime and even took special care of the old lady.

Sometimes, after performing several surgeries a day, he would skip meals and spend a lot of energy handling the old lady’s sudden illness and researching her treatment plan

But back then, he didn’t feel tired at all. On the contrary, he felt happy to be able to have meals and chat with Mirabella.

But at some point, Romeo started showing up by Mirabella’s side.

After Grace’s death, Mirabella stopped coming to the hospital. Their frequent interactions turned into no contact at all. He used overtime to numb himself

Many times, he picked up his phone just wanting to hear Mirabella’s voice, but he couldn’t. He wasn’t the one.

Mirabella was now Romeo’s fiancée.

Staying at the hospital seemed to only add to his pain.

“You’re overthinking; I just don’t want to do this job anymore, that’s all.”

Caden didn’t tell the truth. Mirabella didn’t push further, but his sudden decision left a sour taste in her mouth.

“What’s your plan for the future?” Mirabella asked.

“I’m the only kid in the family,” Caden laughed. “Once I’m done having fun, I’ll take over the family business and let my folks chill out.”

He was the only child in the Newton family. His grandad was a renowned doctor, and his grandma was a well–known medical professor. His dad ran a pharmaceutical group ranked among the top three nationwide, and his mom owned more than thirty private hospitals.

He grew up in a wealthy environment. Being a doctor at Hope Hospital was indeed a bit of a raw deal.

“Maybe we’ll cross paths in the business world,” Caden said with a smile. “Your BellaHealth Innovations is a formidable competitor to the Newton Group.”

At this, Romeo’s eyes landed on Mirabella. She founded BellaHealth Innovations?

She never mentioned this before.

Caden knew about it, and he was in the dark!

He was taken aback!

Noticing Romeo’s gaze, Mirabella lowered her head, her expression a bit awkward, not expecting to be busted again.

“You better buckle down and learn about the corporation’s operations management, Business is a battlefield, and I won’t go easy.”

Caden chuckled, his voice charming. “Right, you should be happy too. I believe Romeo will take good care of you. Nothing more to say so you hang up first.”

He wanted to chat with her more but feared she might find it annoying.

After hanging up, Mirabella was the first to speak up. “I didn’t know who you were back then, so I ‘stole‘ your deal. Well, it wasn’t exactly stealing.”

Half a year ago, she used some tricks to get the pharmaceutical factory, which was supposed to cooperate with McMillan Corporation, to switch sides and work with her instead.

Romeo always hated when people went back on their word, so that factory was in quite a pickle.

“How many secrets do you still have that I’m not aware of?” Romeo was also glad he didn’t make a move on BellaHealth Innovations back then, or he would be in deep water now.

“What other secrets could there be?” Mirabella put away her phone and casually said, “You heard the call. Caden isn’t causing any romantic issues. Don’t let your imagination run wild.”

Otherwise, she’d have to keep mollifying him, which wasia pain in the ass.

Romeo could discern the regret and reluctance in Caden’s tone; it was clear he still cared–about her.

But since Caden didn’t spill the beans, Romeo respected him. At least this way, he and Mirabella could still be friends.

Sometimes, liking someone didn’t mean he had to say it out loud.

“Isn’t it noon now?” Mirabella suddenly said to Romeo, “I need to go back to school after lunch.”

“In such a hurry to go back? What’s up?” Romeo asked, pulling her into his arms, “Got other plans?”

“Mhm.”

“What plans?”

Mirabella wanted to make him a few more outfits, but she couldn’t tell him now. She’d surprise him later.

If she told him now, he would definitely refuse, not wanting her to tire herself out.

“To bond with my roommates. I can’t keep neglecting them, right?”

“Neglecting me for your roommates?” Romeo gave her a punishing kiss and said, “I’ll take you back tonight.”

Now? No way!

“It’ll be too late at night.”

She had to start a new round of extracurricular activities tomorrow and barely had time to make clothes for him. By the weekend, he would be all over her, wanting

her to be with him.

“Now you can only be with me, who else do you want to be with?”

Mirabella thought for a moment and said, “Has the new maid arrived yet? How about I cook you lunch?”

Of course, there was a condition. He had to drive her back to school after the meal.

Romeo noticed her scheme. Willing to cook as a bargaining chip meant something or someone important was waiting for her at school?

“My cooking skills aren’t too shabby and you should consider it carefully. Don’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers!” To speed up his decision, Mirabella started to count down, “Three, two,”

“Okay.”

Mirabella smiled. She knew he would agree.

Romeo: After lunch, he would like to see why she was in such a hurry to get back to school!

Mirabella quickly cooked three dishes and a bowl of soup, handing him the dinnerware and saying, “Taste it.”

Her dishes might look plain, but they’re super scrummy.

Romeo took a bite then his eyes lit up. He didn’t expect Mirabella’s cooking to be such a hit.

“Yum, Romeo complimented, “Is this your new party trick? Cooking?”

“Nope.”

Mirabella hadn’t exactly earned any Michelin stars, but she had a grandpa who used to be a big shot banquet chef, and he passed on all his tricks to her.

He taught her so she could whip up something nice for him whenever she had free time. Back then, she worked so hard to learn that she almost sliced her hand off. Just thinking about it made her tired.

“I guess you’ve been roughing it, eating at my place.”

Mirabella: ??

Is the food cooked by the chefs at my place hard to swallow?”

Mirabella realized what he was getting at: “No, they do a great job too.”
